Review summary

This was our first Norweigian cruise and overall we liked it. The free drinks were convenient although this made lines for drinks a little long at times - especially outside on the pool deck. We wish it was a longer cruise so we could spend more time enjoying the different venues on the ship. Anytime dining worked great and we never had to wait to get into the dining room. Service in the dining room was not the greatest but the food was good for the most part. I felt like Norweigian was a little unorganized when it came to getting everyone to the tender. A bit of lack of information - we had a snorkeling excursion but were not told we didn't need to wait for a number to get on ticket until we asked someone. In the dining room we were not told what kind of complimentary wines were available, we were just offered what they were walking around with. Not until we saw a drink menu at another bar did we realize all of our choices. We will be very careful about picking an itinerary next time - this one had us into port at weird times. Also, we did airfare through Norweigian and the red eye there nearly ruined our whole trip because we were so tired. Next time we will pay extra to go in a day earlier. We did enjoy the more laid back style on Norweigian and being a bit more casual. Although not our favorite cruiseline at this point, we will sail with them again (especially since we have that credit from Cuba being cancelled). 😉

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food in the dining rooms were good. Nothing too fancy but comparable to a Carnival cruise. The selection was good. We didn't enjoy the salads, they were very overdressed.cagneys dinner was very good - what you would expect from a cruise sreakhouse. The buffets were the usual - nothing too exciting there. Moderno for pizza and pasta during the day was was good. Drinks were good for the most part. Champagne/martini bar made good martinis but they were pretty bad ordering them in any other bar. Complimentary wine was good once we figured out our options. Coffee maker in the room was convenient.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We didn't participate in many but they had the usual types of activities that most cruises do - bingo, art auction. Game shows, funny contests., etc

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Due to the itinerary getting us into port late most days, we missed the big shows with not enough time to fit in dinner and a show. We did see the comedian 2 nights and he was really funny. The musicians on board where hit and miss. Some were a bit underwhelming. The white hot party was pretty fun.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Our room steward was great and also most of the bartenders were very friendly and fun. The wait staff in the dining rooms could use some improvement. Our first waiter in seven seas didnt even crack a smile and he was very short with us. Servers in the other dining rooms were a tad bit more personable but not what we are used to with other cruiselines.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The layout was fine. We were easily able to find things. Common areas were well kept and very nicely designed.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Our balcony cabin was nice and comfortable. Not a lot of room to walk around the bed. The shower is probably one of the smallest we've seen. The bed was very comfortable. I slept the best on this cruise than any others. Although that could be because we were very tired from our red eye flight the night before the cruise.

Ship tip

Take a day to relax on board. With no sea days we felt like there was not time to rest, relax, and enjoy the ship. We would have skipped GSC if we could do it over again.

Ports of call

Key West, Florida

Cute town but not enough time in port to do much.

Nassau, Bahamas

This was our favorite port. I did not find the street vendors pushy like other reviews. We did the land and sea tour and enjoyed it a lot. The catamaran trip was beautiful and the guides were a lot of fun! The land part was in air conditioned vans which was nice. Wish there was more time to see the queens staircase. Atlantis was beautiful.

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas

Just ok. We went snorkeling but pretty hard to find anything to look at once you're out there. Food on island was just mediocre. Lines for the bar were long. Next time we'd just stay on the ship.
