I normally don't complain so much believe it or not. This ship and the cruise in general were a disappointment to say the least. Late arrival at Key West. Small ship with minimal amenities. Noises outside our stateroom. Lack of decent air conditioning in the main spaces (the stateroom air conditioner was great). I am happy to say I've now been to Cuba but would not return. I would not sail on the NCL Sun again to any port.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
Very Good. We arrived at noon and were on-board very quickly. Then we found that we had to wait for our room. It wasn't ready until after 2pm.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Food was good but found out once we were on-board that our Platinum Latitudes status meant nothing and that we were denied our specialty restaurant benefits because the ship was only on a "4 day" cruise. Even though it left on Monday and returned on Friday (5 days)
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
VERY small ship for Norwegian. So small that they didn't even have an O'Sheehan's on-board. The main theater was undersized as well.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
They had a comedian who was quite funny. He did a few family shows and then an adult show. The standard "on-board" entertainers were so-so
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
This is where the Sun really shined. Their staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Ship Quality
2 out of 5
Because it is a smaller ship, navigating it was a bit cumbersome. For instance, in order to get to the aft main dinning room (Seven Seas) from the main lobby you had to go up to the 6th floor, then aft, then down one level.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
The bed was comfortable and the room was clean and a decent size. The only main complaint was the shower which was VERY small. The smallest of any ship we have been on.
Ship tip
This is our 7th year in a row sailing on Norwegian. If I new then what I know now I would avoid the Sun if possible. We left port on time but, due to a crew member problem in the middle of the night, arrived late in Key West. They could have easily made up the time because we sat, dead in the water prior to entering port. We only had a few hours in Key West. Our tour was jammed into the time we had so no time remained to enjoy Key West or do any shopping. We were denied our Platinum benefits and offered zero in return.
From what I could tell Key West was worth visiting and we may return some other time. But, since the ship arrived late we didn't fully get to experience the port
I'm glad to say I have been there. It didn't, however, live up t the hype. Yes there are classic cars but it is still a very poor government controlled country. Beggars in the street and smell you can't imagine. We attempted to bring a few items to our tour guide (soap, toiletries, essentials) and we were denied at the port of entry by Cuban security. They said gifts to the Cuban people were not allowed. I was escorted back to the ship to return our gifts to our stateroom.
Sorry to read your cruise was a let down. I was afraid of getting on that ship due to the size, but when I finally did cruise on it I was impressed with the staff and food, and the music was one of the best. Maybe because it was a short cruise you were on, I was on 7 days the first time and 11 the last. Can't wait to get back on. Well best of luck on your next cruise.
