Review summary

Despite the fact we had an inconvenient problem aboard. The staff and experience was fantastic. We were skeptical since we had heard all the bad reviews from the Spring of 2018 about construction aboard ship and even saw it in the national news. We saw none of that and would gladly sail aboard the Sun again. In fact, we are already looking at future dates. Our stateroom was much larger that we expected with plenty of storage.

Embarkation

Port Canaveral was easily navigated to get on the ship. We chose offsite parking and were brought to our embarkation point by a shuttle.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The ship's main dining areas (Four Seasons and Seven Seas) were well staffed, pleasant environment and the food was fantastic! The wine selections were wonderful as well. The buffet in the Garden Cafe was very good too for any meal you choose. One entree was overdone one evening and the desserts seemed a bit bland by there were plenty of choices that were fine. The crowd was heavy during prime time but the floor staff kept a close watch and tables were cleaned and reset within just a couple minutes. Cleanliness was obvious and forefront.

Topsiders Bar and Grill

Always busy but always great service. Try the "Frose" frozen Rose wine drink. It is quite addictive and good to boot!

Windjammer Bar

5 out of 5

Well stocked with staff, good drink and activities from time to time. There was usually a single entertainer in the evenings.

Four Seasons Dining Room

3 out of 5

The food was very good and the service was excellent on one night. The second evening, our reservations were cancelled and we were not seated in time to meet a show.

Moderno Churrascaria

This is Norwegian's take on a Brazilian Steakhouse and we found it to be quite good. Their bar even features special drinks from the region. The ocean view setting made it even better.

Seven Seas Main Dining Room

This was the best meal of our voyage. Our Maitre D, Mary, and our server, Raul, delivered fantastic food, wine and impeccable service!

Great Outdoors

The food here was very good. We ate mostly burgers and hot dogs from here. There were other items available and the aft deck venue was very nice during times when the weather was not unbearably hot (mid-day).

Garden Cafe

4 out of 5

All food we had here for breakfast and lunch was great. Lots of choices were available and the table staff kept everything neat and clean. A couple of evenings, some of the entrees were overdone. They were edible but not as good as others.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Pools were crowded. That is a given but the choice of activities were great. Shuffle board, bingo, casino, mock game shows and even an art auction were held aboard.

Stardust Lounge

This is a short review. Don't miss any of the evening shows. They are all well done and memorable! DO NOT MISS "World Beat" .

Observation Lounge

This is a great indoor lounge venue with a huge bar and plenty of windows to see the sea. Watch out sitting real close to the glass, it can get a bit warm there....

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We had a problem. Our dinner reservations were cancelled one evening and the shuffle to eat caused us to miss an event we were planning on attending. I spoke with the Head Matrie D about the problem and he, his staff and his superior, went out of their way... way out of their way, to make it right for us. We (6) could not have asked for the level of service we received.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship could use a couple more elevators. When lots of people are moving, the floor to floor moving gets slow sometimes. It wasn't bad but that it was noticeable. Cleanliness was obviously a top priority and could be seen in all areas of the ship. The "Washy, Washy" team will keep you ship shape before you dine. You'll have to get aboard to know who they are....

Ship tip

Make sure to attend any show or game show they do, they are hilarious! Don't miss "World Beat" music show.

It was okay. Not our favorite port.

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas

Beautiful beaches, great service by our ship staff, lots of activities to do.

Nassau, Bahamas

We enjoyed the visit to Nassau. The family went to Atlantis water park. It was nice but very expensive tickets. More so than a day at Disney. The downtown shopping was good but know your prices on items before you shop. Take the shopping guided tour (free) with Josh. He will try and steer you right. The road traffic is fun to watch as it is a miracle it flows!
