Review summary

My reason for the cruise was to see Havana as it was before the rebuilding takes over. I chose this trip because I live about 2 hours from the port so it was an easy drive. The only ship going to Cuba from this port is this one. I have been on NCL ships before but it has been quite a while so I hoped that the ships would have improved, but alas not so. If I go again I'll choose another cruise line.

Embarkation

Not well organized, really slow.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Menus were bland, meat sometimes tough, chicken overcooked, chocolate mousse had a weird gel-like covering , not good.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Not much to do.

Entertainment

4 out of 5

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Never did see the cabin steward, but he did an OK job, towel animals were cute.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship is old and the balcony cabin was the smallest I've ever had (more than 30 cruises). Storage space was good .

Cabin / Stateroom

Ports of call

Key West, Florida

4 out of 5
I've been to Key West several times before so didn't get off the ship this time.

HAVANA, CUBA

4 out of 5
My main reason for this trip was to see Havana. We took the Ultimate Havana excursion which was good, although somewhat boring.

Florchid assuming you sailed recently since the Sun came out of drydock. Can you elaborate on how the open bar process is working? Long lines? Overworked bartenders? Watered down drinks? Surprise charges?

For us (hubs and I) when we book our cruises it's either about the ship or the ports . This ship it was definitely about the port, (Havana ) and the bonus was living close to PC. Our last 3 cruises have been on new or mega ships even though we had already been to the ports. All the new ships coming out are too big for Cuba so your stuck with the smaller ships that are older. We made the most of it and had a great time as we do on all our cruises.

We have been on 4 NCL cruises. Twice on the Sun, because it was going where we wanted to go when we wanted to go. Don't judge all of their ships by this one.
