Absolutely Perfect and would do it again! by Caliboy71

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

My wife was a little nervous before our trip. We had never cruised with Norwegian before and only read the reviews. After the first day and a half my wife was saying this was the best cruise yet! And I would have to agree. From the staff, to our room, to the food, and the entertainment. Top notch and well done!!!

Norwegian Star - Well Done by Pierre87USA

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

We really enjoyed our cruise. the only problem we had was the pool and baby with diapers in them, but got it solved at the beginning. And maybe one other thing, but it wasn't a problem really, just don't understand why. e and my partner, we don't really like having our room serviced. So we kept the DND sign on for the first 3 nights. But the 4th night we had a voicemail with a message, that we have to have our room serviced the following night. Not a biggie, but why? We cruised before on Royal, Carnival and MSC and after our trip on NCL, we've chosen NCL as our cruise line for future, we even bought CruiseNEXT deposits. Maybe little tip. If you fancy ALL Inclusive Cruising and you are from other places than Europe, but on EU VPN and visit the website. The price will be in EUR, but you get European AllInclusive deal (Drinks, Gratuities, Internet, Coffees and Bottled Water).

Gorgeous Mediterranean Cruise by anndownes

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

This was a wonderful first cruise for us. We were celebrating my 50th bday and it was fantastic! Specialty restaurants were very kind in their birthday desserts for me. :0) This ship was large enough for us and not very crowded it seemed. We plan on cruising more and will bring our kids next time although it will be a different itinerary. Thank you Norwegian for a fabulous first time! ;0)

We just finished an 8... by beaker6911

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Star

We just finished an 8 day Mediterranean cruise and are overall pleased with our second cruise with NCL. I booked early and received the Ultimate Beverage package and the 3 Specialty Dining. I would highly recommend the beverage package even if you’re not big drinkers, it’s just nice not to have to think twice about having a second glass of wine with supper, or one at lunch on your balcony. Cabin: Booked an aft balcony as we usually do; however at the time of booking, deck 12 (2 decks above us) had a kids’ pool aft. When the ship was partially refurbished they changed this to Slice H2O, a nightclub. The first night we were kept awake until 2:00 in the morning by very loud thumping club music. If I’d known this before booking, or even before the cruise, I would have switched our cabin. We did complain and asked if this would be the case every night. The guest services rep was very helpful and apologetic and we received a bottle of wine and chocolate covered strawberries as well as a complimentary meal at a specialty restaurant. The music was pretty much every night but sometimes only until 1:00! Otherwise I would book an aft cabin again, the balcony is very spacious with 2 lounge chairs, 2 smaller chairs and a table. Dining: Food was pretty good in both MDR Aqua and Versailles. I preferred Aqua as it was more intimate but husband preferred Versailles for its grandeur. We had 2 meals at Cagneys and the steak and sides were fabulous, and 2 meals at Le Bistro - not as impressed. Ate most breakfasts at the buffet - typical buffet fare. Service: Service overall was good - friendly and helpful. Our cabin steward wads bit odd, he was friendly at first but didn’t go above and beyond what was expected. We got the same towel animal 3 nights in a row and none on the last night. I always pre pay the gratuities and also left an extra tip the last night but he didn’t really deserve it. Not sure what we did to get the poor service. Entertainment: Being just us, we usually returned to our cabin after supper and watched movies or read. We saw one show - a magic show, which was quite good, and enjoyed the Melodic Trio in the atrium. Tried to watch the England/Croatia semi final of soccer in Bliss, but it was full even 45 minutes before. Ended up watching in 5 O’Clock Somehwhere, but it is not ideal for staying for long periods - uncomfortable seating and really just a walk through for passengers. Would I cruise with Norwegian again? Probably because we enjoy the freestyle dining and not having to take very dressy clothes. I would maybe choose a different ship if possible though.

Just got back from an... by bgm

Ship: Norwegian Star

Just got back from an 8 day Adriatic Sea round trip cruise from Venice on the Star. Ship had recently been refurbished, and we found it to be clean and in overall good shape. Food was good. We ate every night in one of the main dining rooms. We opted for the drink package and $50 a day credit for excursions as our incentives when booking. My only complaint with the ship is on the one day we chose not to do an excursion, you had to early in the morning line up for tender tickets to get off the ship to ensure you could get off in the morning. Without that numbered ticket, you had to wait for general disembarkation. Thought that was their way of punishing you for not booking through them. They could easily offer those tickets the night before. We enjoyed all the ports, but my whole group thought Montenegro was beautiful but time could have been better spent with another day in Athens. All the ports were beautiful and included Dubrovnik, Croatia, Split, Croatia, and the Greek islands of Kefalonia and Santorini, as well as Athens. We left and returned to Venice, which was my favorite of all. Wish I would have spent more than one night! From our arrival at the airport, we took a regular taxi for 45 euros, and he had us at the terminal in less than 30 minutes. From our hotel to the airport, we took a private water taxi for 130 euros. We thought the price was well worth it for the experience. There were four of us each time. Embarkation was painless, and we booked their Venice Highlights tour to be one of the first off the ship. Our balcony room was comfortable, and would highly recommend this ship and itinerary.

Just realized we never did... by ByronClink

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Star

Just realized we never did a full review. Had a great cruise overall. Loved the ship and crew. Overall, the food and drinks were great. We were served some moldy bread one night in the dining room, which was not good. Otherwise, food and drink were good. Entertainment was ok, but nothing really special. Ports of call were incredibly good. Getting on and off the ship was efficient. Had some issues with A/C in our cabin, but we were starboard sailing due south in July with the drapes open in a balcony cabin. Great cabin steward. Overall, we would do it again in a heartbeat with no reservations.

7 days out of Venice... by jde2015

7 days out of Venice in July. Great trip, prefer smaller cruise ships so this one was perfect for us. Layout a tad confusing but there's no rush on holiday. Service, food and kids clubs all good. Teppenyaki is a must!

NCL Star cruise....returned on 7/2... by TracyTraveler

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Star

NCL Star cruise....returned on 7/2 from a week on the Star. Group of 24 and we had a wonderful trip! The ship was great having recently had a refurb in May. They did a great job with lines at the bar to ensure everyone was served in a timely manner and kept people from skipping the line. Jeffrey and Benito were fabulous bartenders!! I brought my own cup and reusable straw so they knew me and always had a strong drink for me. Our balcony cabin on deck 10 was fabulous! USB ports under the light above the bed. Brought a power strip but really didn’t need it. Had a dry erase board but disappeared 2nd night. Cagney's had a superb steak and sea bass which rivaled any top restaurant I’ve eaten at. Spent a night at Hotel Dei Doge in Venice which was beautiful! Took private water taxi's from airport to hotel and then to cruise ship. Embarkation was very quick and easy. Luggage was delivered within an hour of boarding, we arrived at 1130 and were onboard by 1230. Gibbs was our steward and was great. We were at the end of his section so we didn’t see him much but he did a great job and we left notes for him with our special requests. We tipped along the way as well. The main dining room did a fantastic job with our large group and were able to get 3 tables in the same area so my friends could sing HBD to me. I had made a reservation for 8 but they quickly sat 10 more nearby and served entree's at the same time even though people had trickled in at different times. All meals were yummy! I'm not a foodie and enjoyed the variety but the fact that they had dishes that were not heavy with sauces was great and i loved the carrots & green beans! Fresh, lightly steamed not drowned in butter, very healthy!! Kotor was magical! Corfu was a mess, traffic caused the HoHo bus to sit for an hour between stops so got off and walked, Santorini was beautiful but the cable car line to return was VERY long and we were the last ship to leave, waited an hour for 2 of us then another long line for the tender to the ship. Some of my group walked the stairs down approx 30 mins and 1 slipped in the donkey poo, most said they were not happy walking down. We did not get to go to Mykonos (Capt said bc of weather but one of my group said Costa went and was told by "cruise director" that it is bc of cost to NCL) but we went to Athens and the excursion desk stayed open late so some did the excursion to Acropolis. Some did the HoHo bus and I have a friend that lives there does tours and she took 3 ladies. Wanted to go with her for a total of 13 people but the 3 friends wanted a small group so left it at that but have her info if anyone needs a great guide. I didn't go into Dubrovnik bc of back pain and severe swelling of my legs but my group had a wonderful time! Had 4 do Games of Thrones with Tour by Locals that raved about the guide, Igor. Others did the ship excursion of GT and enjoyed but crowded. Cost was about the same but the ratio of people was better for the small group. Was a lovely trip but it is very port intensive and we all felt our calves aching:) Even those is better shape than I had some aches and pains. Be prepared for LOTS of stairs and steep inclines when walking. Feel free to ask specific questions as I know there are several people booked on same itin. My group agreed 100% that NCL lost money on our UBP 🙂 Gatsby's makes a mean dirty martini!! The slides are gone from pool and same issues with chair hogs and kids running unsupervised. We did carry off from deck 7, got down there at 7, off the ship by 815 with a prearranged cab. At airport before AA check in desk opened at 9. Airport wasn’t too bad when we arrived but gate area was a zoo. Loved the entire trip!

My 7 day cruise June... by herbeje

Sail date: /
Ship: Norwegian Star

My 7 day cruise June 10th on NCL Star from Venice to the lovely ports of Kotor, Corfu, Santorini, Mykonos & Dubrovnik was amazing. These places are so beautiful. The ship had just been in dry dock so was in great shape. The food was delicious as always with 4 choices to eat without additional charges. The entertainment was good & varied allowing for every taste. The CD Tom was great & someone I had cruised with twice before. The game shows were fun & the Newlywed game didn't ask the same old questions so that was nice. My cabin steward Laido did a great job. I found all the staff to be pleasant but especially the internet manager & FCC people. My cabin 9609 was a typical inside with everything I needed & in a good location, not too far from the elevator. I really enjoyed the cruise, the 2 nights pre cruise outside of Venice & 3 nights post cruise in lovely Verona.

Standard cruise by abbymax1

Overall I would rate this cruise as satisfactory. Would not be my first recommendation for my friends. It’s difficult to get around in Venice with luggage and then the embarkation was a disaster.

The ports were wonderful and our tours were amazing and interesting. We especially enjoyed Montenegro where we went to a mussel farm and had freshly harvested mussels and a bottle of wine. The boat ride was fun and the scenery beautiful.

Port Intensive Relocation Cruise by mothersnood

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

Older ship so expect occasional issues. Our cabin’s toilet did not flush straight out of dry dock, then it flooded; no cold water in shower requiring water regulator replacement; laundry service ruined several pieces of clothing. Food ok; front desk never answered phone.

Great Itinerary, but Unfortnatley for Us, We Were the Post-Overhaul Guinea Pigs by GroovyJulie95

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Europe - Mediterranean

It was a great value for a cruise. The ability to have things like free drink packages, specialty dining really made for a better experience. It cost a lot of money for the flights to Barcelona and from Venice and we had to see the sites at all these great ports, so not worrying about getting drinks and a huge bill later was nice. Glad to have our friends on the cruise with us. We hung out a lot, which made up for the not having much to do, especially on the sea days. Get out and see all the ports, even if it's just walking the city like we did in Barcelona, Venice, Monaco and Old Town Croatia. Old Town Croatia, it was a nice place, great food/prices. Made for a more relaxing port after several ports with so much heat/walking/tourists.

Trip with 5 friends. by evelyn521

Found that restrooms frequently had “ out of order” signs on them. This was especially noted around the restaurants and at poolside. Missed an early excursion because I needed to return to my room to use a facility and missed my excursion.
