More that we had expected in every way by RoyL2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The crew made this a great experience. Always ready to provide help. The crew did everything to make it a first quality cruise. The entertainment was real quality performances and performers. The freestyle cruising left flexibility to do what we wanted, when we wanted. We could change our schedule easily. The food choices and quality were far beyond expectations.

TERRIBLE AS FAR AS SERVICE AND FOOD! by MaryW2

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND THIS CRUISE LINE TO ANYONE. THE FREESTYLE CRUISING IS A SHAM. THE FOOD IS SO BAD IN THE RESTAURANTS THAT ARE INCLUDED IN YOUR CRUISE THAT YOU FEEL YOU HAVE TO PAY EXTRA TO GET GREAT SERVICE AND FOOD. THE STAFF IS NOT FRIENDLY OR HELPFUL. OUR ROOM WAS DIRTY FOR 2 DAYS UNTIL THE HEAD OF HOUSEKEEPING TOOK OVER AND MADE SURE WE HAD TOILET PAPER, TUB MAT. OUR MINI BAR WAS NEVER REFILLED AT ALL, AND GETTING MOTION SICKNESS PILLS THAT WERE NEEDED TO KEEP ME OUT OF MY ROOM WERE GIVEN OUT WITH A LECTURE. I WAS NEVER COMFORTABLE LIKE ON OTHER CRUISES. THERE IS ALSO A $12 A DAY CHARGE FOR EVERY GUEST INCLUDING CHILDREN THAT IS ADDED TO YOUR BILL AT THE END OF THE CRUISE. THEY ALSO ADD A 15% TIP TO THEIR ALREADY OVERPRICED DRINKS AND THEN HAVE A SPACE FOR ANOTHER TIP, WHICH SOME FRIENDS MISTAKENLY FILLED OUT, BECAUSE THEY HAD NOT BROUGHT THEIR GLASSES TO THE POOL AND WERE NOT INFORMED OF THIS EARLIER. ALL AND ALL I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND THIS CRUISE LINE TO ANYONE. THEIR ARE A LOT OF HIDDEN COSTS AND THE CREW DOES NOT EARN THEIR TIPS. THEY KNOW BEFORE THE CRUISE WHAT THEIR GETTING SO THEY HAVE THAT "I DONT HAVE TO DO ANYTHING ATTITUDE".

Alaskian Cruise for the Family by SherrylB

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

We recently sailed on the Norwegian Star for the first time, and it was an experience we enjoyed. The Star's Marketplace buffet was a great food court with many more choices than we ever though with stations you can approach from all sides (breakfast was our favorite here). Very wide-open and airy feeling, a huge step up from the typical ship buffet. We loved the sit down restaurants as well. Great food selections and delicious choices. Loved the ability to choose to sit down or go through line. Did not try to the "surcharge" restaurants because we had a family and the cost was a turn off. We wanted to save our money for the excursions. We river rafted near the Mendenhall Glacier. Beautiful. We wanted to zip-line in skagway but the information on the excursions was difficult to find and navigate through. The cost of the excursions was high for a family and we really feel like we missed out on alot without the excursions. The ports of call were great but without the excursions the ports of call turned into shopping at the same stores, same merchandise at each port. This was not fun for our kids. Going on the excursions brought the area to life and excited the kids about Alaska's sites & natural beauty.

First time cruiser by Ry

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)

Since we went as a group, we had good time enjoyed the trip. Overall experience was good - service was varied from excellent to worst. When I lost room card in the gym, the attendant was least concerned and rude in his response that no one turned in.

Nice places to visit! by ShawnP

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The ship was nicely layed out, had adequate rooms and great entertainment but the food was not so good. Prices were too high for all other services on board, i.e spa, alcohol, etc.

First-timer on Norwegian by BethJ5

This big ship is bright and cheerful. A few areas are a little worn but I understand it is going to be completely redone in October.

Just an ok cruise by AhshaT

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

The embarkation process was smooth. In general the overall entertainment was poor and so was the food. The specialty restaurants had a cover charge between $10 and $25 and so dined only once, food ok there. The choice of ports was at best average. Prince Rupert in Canada had absolutely nothing.

Cruise was slightly above average by MarkS3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Recommend with this caveat, service ranges from execellent to poor. Food can be good but did not exceed my expectations as did food on prior NCL (before free style) and celebrity

A Carribean Cruise to Alaska by JillR3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

I thought it was a nice cruise. I went with others who really wanted to go to Alaska, and it was beautiful. I just happen to prefer warm, sun, and beaches on my vacations..... we had really gorgeous weather though so I can not complain! Glaciers were gorgeous and amazing.

Great Alaska cruise by MelonieS

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

I think the ship is laid out fine, and once you get your bearings it is easy to navigate. The only thing I didn't like about the layout is finding one of the two free dining rooms-not easy to find. I also am not crazy about the painting on the ship-ours were stars with ribbons-I don't find this dignified at all for such a huge ship-they aren't a party ship like Carnival.

great cruisee by HelenS1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

WE loved the ship and of course how could you not love Alaska. our room stewards were great as was the sevice in the dinning rooms. I would have liked to have gambled but could not because of the smoke. The volume of the sound in the Spinaker room was to loud and do to the weather you could not sit on deck. The crew member kept right on talking over the captain which was not good Entertainment great

Hotel size, motel service by Sk111

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

There are poor service to customer in cabin. I don't know where is free cafeteria, internet cafe. They don;t give any their facility explanation in room. In the cheap motel, they have a printed paper about their facility in the room.

A Different Type of Cruise by MarkM14

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Star / Destination: Alaska - Inside Passage

Nice clean ship. Decent food and food options. Friendly staff. Drinks were way too expensive. Don't get trapped into the Sunday Jazz Brunch. Not worth the $15 per person. Other restaurants are marginally worth it.

Nice Alaska Cruise by JaniceW6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)

No indoor pool, no covered pool, would be nice to have access to indoor pool without paying money. Very cool atmosphere and no robe to get to your room without freezing.

Not the newest but it was refurbished a couple of years ago and was just fine. The crew kept it clean and well maintained.
