Review summary

Wonder 12 days on a great itinerary and a great ship

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Longer waits as we had a wheelchair and fewer desks available to handle them, but still didn't wait too long.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Didn't have a bad meal all cruise. MDR, O'Sheeans, buffet and the four speciality dining options we visited were all excellent. Moderno and La Cucina our favourite speciality options.

Onboard Activities

Entertainment

3 out of 5
This is what let's them down. The Burt Bacharach musical is so out dated and badly done, we're both around 40 and felt we needed to be twice our age. We also didn't know that most nights there would be only one show (normally this has only been a first night thing on other cruises) so entertainment clashed with our dining reservations and we missed out. The magician was good, as was Band On The Run, but overall they need a fresher look at appealing across age groups.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Excellent. Our room steward Jorge was fantastic. Lusca in Spice H2O also an excellent bar tender, and she was always nice to chat to

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Nice size, immaculately clean, well cared for.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Fantastic location. We won an upgrade bid and were worried it would be noisy but not at all. Excellent central spot. Quiet apart from the morning we had tender boats out. Tender pier right below and pilot often boarded or disembarked below us which was very cool. Immaculate condition and no complaints.

Ship tip

Spice H2O is a delight, as is the Thermal Suite, if you're a couple wanting child free spaces to relax.

Ports of call

Reykjavik, Iceland

4 out of 5
Love the city but visiting by cruise did not show it at it's best. It did not have a shuttle bus and is a long walk to town, and a fair walk to the nearest public bus stop at the weekend, as they buses onto the port don't run at the weekend. Few staff around to help.

Portland (Weymouth), England, UK

3 out of 5
Weren't allowed off the port without the shuttle bus. Waited 30 minutes in the sun with no buses and gave up as I have a condition that makes standing painful and I couldn't manage to stand longer. Dorset Wrecks performed before we left and we had a gun salute which were cool.

Akureyri, Iceland

Belfast, Northern Ireland

Dun Laoghaire (Dublin), Ireland

Loved the tendering. Went to Bray on the train to avoid the crowds.

Disembarkation

Smooth and faultless, although my case was damaged during disembarking.

Thanks for your review. Glad you enjoyed your cruise, we also loved the Star on a cruise 3 years ago, doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of the big ships but we loved the staff and the atmosphere
