Review summary

1. Substandard food. The Asian restaurant was bad. It would be a Hugh improvement if they hire any Chinese take out restaurant. 2. I forgot to pickup my camera from x-Ray machine when I got onboard. I reported the loss and Norwegian never found it. No attempt was made to compensate. 3. The pool area taken over by kids. No adult hours. 4. Very few people dressed up during a formal night.

Very sorry you had a bad cruise.   I call that ship the NCL Fallen Star.  I have been on her twice,  the two worst cruises I have been on.   on the other hand I had been on the NCL Pearl and that was a good cruise.  The Star is just a bad ship even after it was updated.

I have noticed,  NCL gets a lot of families on it,  so lots of kids.  NCL nickle and dime you to death.  The food in the included dining rooms is sub par, to get a good dinner you have to go to a extra pay restaurant (steak house, french food and Sushi were great).   Service in the dining rooms is poor if your a large group.  Cabins not up to par on older ships and strange bathroom configurations on newer ships.

When I cruise with family members that have kids we go RCI.  When I travel with friends I prefer Celebrity for longer cruises,  for a short get away Carnival is fine with the adult only serenity deck.  Any cruise line has better food then NCL.   When booking a cruise LOCATION, LOCATION,  LOCATION,  always have a ship deck plan open to be sure your cabin is not below the pool deck, below or above a club and not next to stairs, elevators or crew entrances and remember the very front cabins,  they are a rocking and when anchor is dropped,  you hear it,  5 am and you hear it !!!!

I hope with a bit of research your next cruise is fantastic.

Thank you for posting your review. It is unfortunate that you had a negative experience.  A couple things came to mind though, which may help with future planning...

1. Food on NCL is fine for what it is, but this is not a cruise line known for its stellar cuisine. I don't see many rave reviews of how great it is in general cruise reviews. Perhaps do some research as to previous cruisers' food-specific ratings before you book another cruise. I give due consideration to reviews posted by fellow travelers. If an average rating is 3 out of 5 stars, that sends a clear message that the food is just average.

2. With regard to your camera - gotta agree with previous comments, that is on you, not on NCL.  The loss is unfortunate, but as an adult there is a level of accountability for one's self and property.

3. There are a few lines that have an adult pool and family pool. Research that before booking next time. If you have an option of taking a 10+ day trip, we notice less children on those cruises. Unfortunately, it is more an issue of absentee parents than it is being overrun by kids. This is a real sore spot for a lot of people but until the cruise lines hold the parents responsible or allow security to step in to put an end to the shenanigans, this is unlikely to change.

4. NCL is a free-style experience so to a lot of people that means come-as-you-are.  Formal nights have suggested dress codes on most of the popular lines.  Dressing to the nines is not required. If you really want to get all gussied up for dinner, knock yourself out and have a great time!  Just don't hold everyone else to your standard.  They are on vacation too and may not want to be bothered. For us, my husband is disabled. Getting him into a suit/tux would completely ruin his evening as a result. He puts on a nice shirt and tie. Honestly, I could care less if someone else gets their panties in a knot over it. This is another thing worth looking into because some cruise lines are more likely to see tuxes and suit jackets than others... NCL is not one of those.

Happy sails!

I am sorry you did not enjoy your cruise. However, I agree with Cruisin Tim, it is not NCL's responsibility in regards to your camera. Anyone could have picked it up. In regards to dressing for dinner, you sailed on the Freestyle cruise line. That is their motto dress up or not. Hopefully your next cruise will be better.

"I forgot" to pickup my camera from x-Ray machine when I got onboard. I reported the loss and Norwegian never found it. "No attempt was made to compensate.". YOU forgot, why should the cruise line compensate for something YOU forgot to do? YOU are responsible for your personal items when boarding, NOT the cruise line!
