The Norwegian Star itself was incredibly beautiful and very clean. NCL's surcharge policies were outrageous.

Pros: The Alaska scenery & people.

Cons: NCL's excessive surcharges for food & amenities.

Recommends Norwegian Star? No.

Ship Quality
Everything about the ship itself was flawless, but NCL should be much more "up front" with the extra surcharges, especially laundry service. My wife 7 I packed light (to save on luggage weight) thinking we could have our clothes laundered at a reasonable price. Such was not the case, as the charge for a single item ran as high as $5. The charge for soft drinks was also deplorable, and the $62 "all you can drink" card, while helpful, was still much too expensive. We also didn't care for the constant emphasis on purchasing jewelry at all of the ports of call.
Food and Dining
With the exception of the Market Cafe & Poolside Grill (food was always cold) the food aboard the Star was excellent.
Cabin / Stateroom
A little small, but always clean.
Service and Staff
Everyone was very polite & efficient.
Entertainment
1st class entertainment, but always with a sales pitch of some sort -- CD's, DVD's, etc.
Ketchikan, Alaska
Beautiful, picturesque, and clean. Our favorite stop.
Don't Miss: Eagle nursery & salmon hatchery
Skagway, Alaska
Also very pretty & picturesque, but again overcrowded.
Don't Miss: Historical tour & salmon bake at the goldrush camp.
Juneau, Alaska
Very pretty, but a little too crowded.
Don't Miss: Musher's camp & dogsledding
Prince Rupert, British Columbia
Pretty town, but limited activities.
Don't Miss: We had no time for an excursion here.
