Review summary

First cruise on NCL. Had its ups & downs. The flooded corridor was not appreciated and should have been fixed before we boarded. Not lots of activities by day. Only three sea days so we were tired after visiting so many ports of call. One of the best cabins we have stayed in. Give them a try.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
The only thing that took time was the security checks. NCL's check-in process was so fast there were no lines and no waiting.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
I found that NCL's onboard dining was excellent. The quality of the food served was simply superb. This goes for all restaurants on the ship. There were no disappointments. However, be advised the Bier Garden does not serve any German food despite the info on NCL's web site.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
There are no specialty entertainment features aboard this ship. There is an arcade for teens and a casino for adults but that is where the smokers gather.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
There is no late-night entertainment whatsoever. The shows were OK but typically conflicted with specialty restaurant dining times. There was one option for dancing and the same band performed every night.

Children's Programs

We were not traveling with children.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All ship personnel were friendly, courteous and respectful.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship was kept clean but there were continuing issues with the public restroom facilities being out-of-order.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Room was spacious and the double-wide shower in the bathroom was the largest ship-board shower we have ever used. Unfortunately there was a serious water leak in the corridor outside our room that was present throughout the cruise and was not fixed when we left. The carpeting was soaked at all times and fans were in operation the entire cruise.

Ship tip

This is an older ship that does not offer features one might be expecting nowadays. However, the superior service and food quality was among the best we've experienced.

Ports of call

Barcelona, Spain

Great city but watch for pickpockets! Spent time on our own sightseeing. Many modern hotels to choose from.

Casablanca, Morocco

Excellent tour of the Hassan II mosque. Highly recommended. Be sure to include the inside.

Arrecife, Lanzarote, Canary Islands

Another excellent tour of the Fire Mountains. Dramatic landscapes and we rode a camel. Recommended.

Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Canary Islands

5 out of 5
Excellent tour of the island. Great diversity of sights. Recommended.

Santa Cruz De Tenerife, Canary Islands

3 out of 5
Unless you ride the cable car to Mt. Teide consider staying aboard the ship.

Funchal, Madeira

5 out of 5
Rented a cab & driver for 25 euros for the entire day. Saw everything. Best way to see the island. Be advised if its Sunday you will not be able to sample the famous port wine.

Malaga, Spain

5 out of 5
Took the excursion to Granada to see Al Hambra. Highly recommended to take the tour. It is lengthy (9+ hours) but very worthwhile.

Alicante, Spain

3 out of 5
Planning to shop this day but unfortunately no shops near the port.

Disembarkation

Left the ship when we wanted to. No customs check. Simply walked out and boarded our pre-arranged shuttle.
