Review summary

We booked this cruise because of the itinerary and are very happy we did this. Great itinerary. HOWEVER, we had two very rocky days at sea. We had 17 foot waves for over 36 hours. I'm not sure this ship was designed for these type of waves and swells. On the second night at sea, many passengers said they had difficulty not being rocked out of their beds.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Best embarkation experience ever. Took only about 30" total from leaving off luggage to opening our cabin door.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Never ate in specialty restaurants. Main dining room choices were fine for appetizers and desserts. Entrees not so much. Steak was always on the menu. Tried this twice. Terrible. Recommendations, though, from wait staff, for special entrees offered each day were great.

Magnum’s Champagne & Wine Bar

4 out of 5

Quite nice. Took awhile to get waited on but the venue, itself, was nice.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Would have liked more than daily trivia.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The big shows that included the singers, dancers, acrobats, and magicians were amazing. WOW. The dancers even hung in there on the night when the boat was really rocking. Not sure how they maintained their high-energy routines when the rest of us could barely walk. The acrobats were good, too.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
These were unquestionably excellent - from the front desk to the cabin steward to the dining room staff. Everyone was determined to help us to have a 'wonderful vacation'.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
This ship needs some redecorating. On other NCL ships, for example, the hallways carpets have fish that indicate whether you are headed fore or aft. Very helpful. Our room was clean. General areas were clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We knew, going in, that the room was going to be small. It was just fine.

Ship tip

Try to have a sit-down breakfast in the main dining room as often as possible. Such a nice treat.

Ports of call

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5
WOW. What a beautiful city. Need to spend at least 3 days in Barcelona. Take the Hop on-Hop off buses. Visit "Everything Gaudi".

Casablanca, Morocco

Casablance is, in one word, a (I cannot say the word.....). It is filthy and a typically big, dirty African city (I've lived one year of my life in Africa). Do NOT expect anything at all in Casablanca and you won't be disappointed. We took the ship's tour to Rabat. It was wonderful - in spite of the thunderstorm and TWO separate hail storms.

Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Canary Islands

3 out of 5
It was, merely, OK. I wish we had taken a separate tour.

Santa Cruz De Tenerife, Canary Islands

3 out of 5
Again, we didn't take a tour and should have done this.

Funchal, Madeira

4 out of 5
Beautiful.

Malaga, Spain

5 out of 5
Well, it's Spain! Easy off the ship. Had to pay 5 euro for the shuttle bus but worth it. It was Carnaval in Malaga. What a special time!

Alicante, Spain

4 out of 5
It was a rainy day but the easy elevator trip up to Santa Barbara was worth it. Beautiful.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Easy off and taxis were waiting for us.
