Review summary

This is a great cruise for history lovers. Every port has some very interesting venues to see and learn something new. Since I went in December, this was not a typical go to the sun type vacation, but the history and culture more than made up for the low temperatures. Still managed to come back with a tan.

Embarkation

Very easy and well organized embarkation. As smooth I I have experienced in 15 years of cruising.

Most meals were excellent, however I went with the standard steak a couple of nights.

Ship Quality

Ship was well maintained and our cabin was well cared for.

Cabin / Stateroom

The standard balcony was a little smaller than we were use to, but it was a nice room.

Ports of call

Barcelona, Spain

Great place to start and end. Hop on Hop off is the way to go. Take an extra day if you can.

Casablanca, Morocco

Great place. Historical sites and landmarks are great. Be prepared for some high pressure sales tactics if you show any interest in the hand made rugs. If you stand your ground, you might get a reasonably good deal. The rug market is not for the timid or unprepared.

Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Canary Islands

Great history. Highly recommend the painted caves for history geeks like me.

Santa Cruz De Tenerife, Canary Islands

The volcano was excellent. Bundle up and be prepared for high winds. Check the weather forecast before taking the cable car to the top...if the wind is too strong, they shut it down.

Funchal, Madeira

5 out of 5
Really enjoyed the cable car ride to the top of Madeira and the guided wicker basket street sled back down the hill.

Malaga, Spain

The trip to Granada was excellent. The castle was great and our guide at the castle complex was excellent. If you go in winter, wear something warm. It was really cold and most of the tour was outside. The castle was not heated either.

Alicante, Spain

The castle was great here too. The views were incredible. There is also a nice area for shoping close to the port.

Disembarkation

Easy and fast. They did a great job. We went with the sponsored hotel package and would recommend this option to others.
