Great vacation! by HenorH

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

We sailed the first week of November from Miami to the Bahamas. It was the first cruise for all three of us so we didn't know what to expect. My first concern prior to sailing was seasickness which I know I'm prone to. To my surprise, I could barely tell we were on a boat! The only place, for some reason, I could feel some rocking going on was near the kid's corner. Service was great starting from the cleaning of the room and throughout the ship. Food at the buffet and Garden Cafe was OK but it was convenient since you didn't have to wait for someone to take your order like at the restaurants. Just grab a plate and plow through the various dishes offered. We ate there mostly for breakfast since we wanted to get done quickly and off the ship to visit the city. The rest of the meals, we went to the other two inclusive restaurants: The Crossings and Palace. It was definitely worth it to dress a little bit, nothing extravagant, just long pants and a polo shirt. The quality of the food there was way better. We had, escargot, salmon, steaks and even lobster! You almost felt guilty destroying those dishes prepared like an art work served by an excellent group of servers making you think you are at a five star French restaurant :). As far as the stops, Freeport, Nassau and the private island they were OK, no reason to want to see them twice. Im maybe spoiled since I live in south Florida, but I would definitely select a longer (7 nights instead of 4 nights) and different ports: Jamaica, Dominican Republic, St Thomas, Puerto Rico for my next cruise. Freeport is a very run down city, poor and dirty. To add salt to the injury, prices were ridiculously high. $18 for burger, $5 for a bottle of water, $9 for a shaving cream can that I get for 99 cents in US. I told the merchant about the shaving cream how do you sleep at night?. His reply, we have to import everything because we a re a small island. I dont buy for a second, we and the rest of the World imports from China too but prices are nowhere near your little precious islands prices! Anyway, Atlantis is the main attraction in Nassau but again at $160 per person, I dont think any water park is worth that kind of money, period, even if your last name is Madoff. We just took the water taxi from the port to Atlantis for $3 a person and you get to see the water side of the island with the expensive houses and yachts that the few lucky rich bastards like to remind you what your life could have been like if you only had stayed in school and got that GED that would have opened the doors to this richness, yeah right :). We took a look at the free aquarium and other areas of the hotel without shelling a penny and walked to the adjacent public beach. Last stop was the Great Stirrup Cay, private island. Chairs and food were plentiful but the weather sucked. I made the most out of it by organizing some beach volleyball. Be cautious, do not dive on any of the courts or you risk breaking some ribs! Im glad I had read another review in here prior to departure, so I didnt take any risks. They should put warnings on those courts because the ground is rock solid and they just damped some fake sand which in many places is less than an inch thick. Overall, it was a great experience and I intend to cruise again soon. We had a balcony room on deck 10. It was great to be able to watch the sun go down from the balcony but I could do without it next time unless I get an upgrade for next to nothing as I did on this booking. Kids corner is a fantastic service! Our 4 year old daughter couldnt wait to go (neither did I, finally a chance to get a break :). It took us a couple of days to convince her this was a boat not a house. Biggest boat she had been on until then was my fishing kayak, so I dont blame her :).

We cruised on the Pearl and found that the bedding is so much more cozzy and comfortable than the Sky but then again it was only a 3 day cruise. Food and activities were good.

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The ship was a bit confusing to "get around", compared to other ships we've saided on. But the accomodations, food and especially the service from the staff was highly exceptional. We'd definitely cruise with NCL again.

Four days in paradise by JohnS54

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

The Sky was a superior ship. It's ten years old, but was refurbished in 2008, so it looked almost new. The variety of restaurants and activities available every day sometimes made it hard to choose just what to do and where to eat. There really IS something for everyone!

the ship is nice, clean, and comfortable , however, the atcivties was not explaing to us, no one welcome us on the ship and showed us where our room at, or even told us what activities are going to be on the ship and thier time, or even where is the resturants and what kind of food they provide, it was our time on cruse and i was hopeing they would have someone great us , show us around, or explain us to us what is going on, i did not like the fact that we have to discover everything our self,,,, no was not good

It was clean, but a little worn. Exterior was sharp, but some of the general areas (basketball court, shuffleboard etc) didn't seem to be thought about.

Best experience ever! by AnnA423711400

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Eastern

This really was one of the best traveling experiences I have ever had. As a single, 41 yr. old young woman, this cruise was my first and certainly not my last. I was very impressed with the entire staff of NCL. The cleanliness of the ship was remarkable. My stateroom, as with the rest of the ship could have easily passed the white glove test. The food was amazingly good. Plenty of hot water for showering. I am usually cold, but found the temperature to be perfect!

5 day cruise to bahamas by DebA1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

5 day cruise to Bahamas, we were looking for some sunshine for our anniversary. The cruise was good, not as elegant as our first NCL cruise but fun. Service in the dining rooms and hotel staff was good. There was no service in the buffet area, little disapointed that there was no one to serve coffee or juice, just self serve. That works fine but a coffee refil service would have been nice. A little pricey in the drinks, server did not tell us that the special glass was optional and 2 dollars extra.

Norwegian Sky Lovely to Bahamas by AnnaM6

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Sky / Destination: Caribbean - Bahamas

This was our first cruise. I found boarding the SKY pretty easy as I had arrived about 10:30am or 11 ish. I was able to board the boat pretty quicky. I took the advice of an earlier reviewer and checked in all my bags including my carry ons...as the rooms are not available till about 2pm....many people were walking around waiting for their rooms and dragging their carry ons with them...definitely check them so your hands free as you have lunch and explore the ship, Overall I found the ship to be very pretty, well maintained with a very attentive staff. I was on the 10th floor in a balcony located in the middle of the ship. The ride was pretty smooth there. I was concerned about being below the pool area as it's quite the party place. Although I could here the dj music when i was out on the balcony i didn't mind at all. Somewhere around 6 to 7am I was awoken by the dragging of the chairs on the deck above. I made a call to reception to very nicely mention the noise....they were very very very receptive, apologetic. The problem did not occur again! The staff not only followed up with me to be sure the situation was resolved but provided me a complementary bottle of wine for my trouble...I was very impressed! One must understand I'm from Boston....the food at restaurants here is fabulous...i was somewhat disappointed with the food in the restaurants. I ordered soups like the crab wonton....just wasn't "right," and the there was an egg drop hot/sour soup as well the just seemed, "off," I ordererd the prime rib and got 2 very thin slices of meat.. although it was tasty it was way too small of a portion. It didn't occur to me till about my 3rd day of my 4 day cruise that i could have ordered more menu items. My friends ordered the salmon which looked quite good and they seemed to enjoy it...desserts were very pretty but again...just ok. I found the buffet at deck 11 to be the most popular place to eat...and for buffet food it was very good...they had a caring station, a pasta station...and breakfast was ok as well...with freshly made belgian waffles being made as well as omelettes. We enjoyed eating outside on the deck at 11 and like the fact that there was a buffet available right there. So remmber to walk right into the buffet...thru the indoor dining area to the back....for another full buffet that is open air. I did spend and additional 35 dollars on my last cruise evening at Cagney's Steakhouse on the ship, i found the overall quality of the food in the pay for restaurant to be much better although my surf and turf lobster tail although very large was not very tasty....again, I'm from the northeast...where Maine Lobsters are avail all the time. At Cagney's I ordered the shrimp cocktail ...they were HUGE and delicous.....but It seemed they were coated with an oil dressing of some sort...not what I"m used too, generally shrimp cocktail is cold and not seasoned....although i did enjoy it. I also ordered the lobster bisque. The presentation was lovely, it didn't taste like my traditional lobster bisque here in the n east, and was a bit too salty but still very good. My main course again was the surf and turf. The filet mignon was very tasty and tender...but I do believe my lobster tail was a bit under cooked. My side dishes were creamed spinach...which was very good and the gratin potatoes also very good. The staff was wonderful as well I had a stateroom with a balcony. Although i was a bit tight as I had a double bed in it, I was thrilled to have a balcony cabin. I found the room to be very clean and neat. I did wipe off the phone as I"m fussy about that and the TV was a bit old and have a very limited amount of channels available. CNN was avail, but most of the channels were promotional in nature but i did find them informative. I found our bathroom a bit old though. Our shower curtain seemed a bit dirty...but when I called and asked for another one...again staff was wonderful and quick to re
