Review summary

For my first cruise I was extremely disappointed and am not sure I would choose a cruise for my next vacation or ever again.

Embarkation

It was complete chaos. For a first time cruiser, no one provides any direction on where you go and what you are supposed to do.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

The buffet was average. The main dining room was nice and you can actual relax and enjoy your meal. The bars were crowded and just chaotic.

Palace Main Dining Room

The Palace was really good. The food was excellent and the service was also. You could sit down and relax during your meal without any of the chaos like the buffet.

Onboard Activities

The pool was small and taken over by rowdy college students. Did not feel comfortable letting my 15 year old swim in the pool or in the hot tubs.

Entertainment

The Casino was nice but the bartenders there were rude and not so inviting.

There was some staff who were very inviting and amazing, from my experience the staff was Guest Services and the Room Stewards. The staff at the Palace were also very nice and did their job really well. Other than that....not really friendly or helpful. Disappointing.

Staterooms were very small and the walls were so thin. We heard everything going on in the hallway including all the drunk people running up and down the halls and knocking on the walls.

The island was big enough that you could go to your own area and enjoy peace and quiet. The bars were not very crowded and the beach was very clean. It was beautiful.

We weren't sure after our first cruise in 2011 but we gave it another try. We will be sailing our 12th cruise next month. This will be our first time with NCL and our first weekend cruise

I'll be on the Sky in a couple of weeks. I chose this cruise because there are two full days in Cuba. My adult daughter and I don't drink, so I appreciate your warning about the guests who overindulgence. Don't give up on cruising. My second cruise was on Carnival, and it was a disappointment, but I've since cruised on Carnival and a few other cruise lines. I think it is one of the most affordable and relaxing ways to travel.

From what I understand these short cruises also exhaust the staff, the frequency they turn over the ship (every 3-4 days) is just crazy.

True, the Sky is pretty much a party boat because of length of cruises and free booze. We only really saw one lady that was drunk on the cruise. I am set up to go twice this year because of certifcates I got thru Wyndham. Hopefully will be good ones

The Sky isn’t like any other ship in the NCL fleet, it has a different crowd and feel too it... Try a cruise on one of the bigger ships avoiding Spring Break (preferably 7 days or so), you’ll get a proper feel whether you like cruising or not... Doesn’t much matter whether you pick Carnival, RCCL or NCL if your sailing out of Florida, they’re all pretty similar overall...

Research every ship you're thinking of cruising on so you can decide if it'll meet your and your families needs. Most 3-4 day cruises are party cruises and the Sky had included alcoholic beverages so usually had a party crowd! Research would've prevented some of what you complained about m😉
