Review summary

Spirit Airline delayed our plane 8 times. Causing us to arrive at the port of Miami 15 mins before the ship's departure. When we arrived they refused to allow us to board the ship. The ship sat at port for another 30 minutes then sailed away without us. We lost over 1,500 dollars each. Then had to sleep in the airport overnight to fly back home the next morning. Worst experience of my life.

Better yet never fly the same day of a cruise. Even the ones who guarantee you assistance if your flight is delayed charge extra for flights . Trying to collect under travel insurance for a delayed flight is another nightmare. Book a pre-cruise hotel and enjoy the beautiful city of Miami. Also hire a Travel agent like me to educate you on these things in advance. Check out MCT Travel and Events

And for reference never, ever fly with Spirit Airlines. They are the absolute worst airline ever, I work at the airport so I see it first hand.

Wow that is sad , sometimes without knowing it the credit card you used offers insurance so maybe call and ask credit card company

Carnival has started a program(fly to the fun) where you book your flight through them and you are covered if anything like this happens. I had a friend miss his departure one time out of Port Canaveral. Luckily the ships first stop was in the Bahamas, so he drove to Miami and took a boat over to the islands. They let him board there.

All the cruise lines enforce the "must be onboard an hour prior to the scheduled departure time" due to marine laws not the cruise line itself.

Sorry to hear that but at the same time a lot of these low budget airlines: Spirit and RyanAir are known to always delay or cancel flights. Don't recommend using them at all especially if you're cruising. If your flight is being delayed you're suppose to contact the cruise line to let them know and they usually will get you to the first port of call.

Not very professional of NCL. They have waited an hour and a half before for late passengers returning. Did you contact them to advise your flight delays?
