Review summary

NCL Prima is a "one and done" for us, and likely no need to sail aboard the new sister ship, NCL Viva. If all NCL ships have gone to identical daily menus, we're off to Royal Caribbean/Princess.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
We had no trouble getting aboard on time, but the ship returned to a different pier when we returned.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
The ship's main dining rooms did not change their menus during the entire cruise. The Garden Cafe/Buffet was only about 20% the size of every other ship at sea. The specialty restaurants often included additional "up charges" for items that traditionally were part of the specialty.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The activities staff was very friendly and fun. The venues, however, were very unusual (usually sitting in a bar area during the day). For experienced NCL cruisers, there was no "Atrium" venue for activities.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The "Summer" production show was very, very good (bio-musical of Donna Summer). The Price is Right was done well. The two comedians were funny. Entertainment venues were small; it was competitive to get any seat in Syd Norman's Poor House of The Improv. The bands, duos, singers were of mixed quality.

Children's Programs

Duh. No children.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The crew was very good. The cabin stewards now have to cover so many rooms that they visit your cabin only once per day.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship was extremely clean. The Prima layout is unusual. They squeezed in a 3-story go cart track and several specialty restaurants.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin was typical. We had sufficient storage. The balcony was small, but adequate.

Ship tip

Sail on NCL Escape, instead.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

4 out of 5
No excursion, we live in Cocoa Beach. The Port Authority has expanded to Port over the past several years, and parking/traffic is much busier, now.

Cozumel, Mexico

3 out of 5

George Town, Grand Cayman

3 out of 5

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

3 out of 5

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas

3 out of 5
The winds picked up later in the day and the tender crews struggled mightily to get everyone back aboard the ship.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Got right off the ship, but had to wait 45 minutes for a taxi/Uber.
