Boston to Bermuda is a perfect first sail or returning sail. Waters off the Carolina's might be a little rolly for some at times, but very manageable. Love the 1 Day at sea, both to Bermuda and Back to the US from Bermuda. Adding Bar Harbor as a Port was/is Brilliant! Immigration comes to the ship in Bar Harbor, which makes the disembark process in Boston so much more streamlined
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Boston is a very convenient and 'easy embarkation port'
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Main Dining Room - Very gracious hosts. Honestly the food could have been better. La Cucina Specialty Dining Experience was 2 hours. Very slow, however there were several very large parties with young kids present, which could have attributed to the delay.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
One of the At Sea Days, the Main Pool (kids) Pool had to close for 2.5 hours due to a smashed glass in the bottom of the pool. That same day, winds were so bad the metal deck chairs were flying around on Deck 12. I dont think the rock wall was ever open, and the golf had only left handed clubs.
Entertainment
2 out of 5
Best show was a dated "Legends Concert". The Comedian Nikki Carr was not appropriate at 7 for the younger audience that was present. Sadly, No Magic Show. I have had much better entertainment on Norwegian Ships especially those out of NY. Maybe that is the difference
Children's Programs
My child(13) did not participate in the kids programs
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Wait Staff was wonderful, Hostess in Main Dining very pleasant and personable. We had a problem with a shore excursion, which the onboard crew were 'unable' to resolve while on board. Guest Services Desk, provided excellent customer service, including going above and beyond to accommodate our needs in Bar Harbor.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Common Areas cleaned and well maintained. Pearl is going in for refurb in Sept. Our Room was very clean, and room steward very attentive. Deck 8 is a "loud deck", and many people arbitrarily left food plates, glasses in the hallways and on railings in the hallways.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
The cabin size was acceptable for 2 people. There is no way that could have accommodated more than 2 people. My biggest complaint on this room, wasnt the "Obstructed View" It was the double porthole window. I specifically asked the booking agent about the room window. They assured me that it was a large picture window, albeit with and obstructed view. It is most definately 2 long portholes, one on each side directly above the beds!. That should be noted in the ship layout when booking! The hallway was extremely loud. Some staterooms encouraged their to run laps around the interior cabins at 10/11 pm.
Ship tip
Know that deck 8 is a louder deck. Do a little research on menus and activities that can be done in each port ahead of time. Pack light, but pack a zip sweatshirt for cool nights at sea.
we live near Boston, so we did not do much other than park while there for this trip. Be advised at the time of writing (August 11th) the Sumner Tunnel was closed. we did not exp. any issues, but we arrived early. It could affect your travel.
Dockyard is extremely convenient, as will any island port, be mindful of uneven sidewalks. If you are travelling to Bermuda, not that most stores are closed at 5pm, and not necessarily open on Sundays or Holidays!
This is a "Tender Port". Immigration arrives on board in the morning to clear passengers. It is a very easy streamlined process. Make sure you book an excursion to Acadia! Not to be missed!
Amazing! The Boston Disembarkation people have this down to a science. Yes, of course you can choose to walk off with your luggage, but unless you have an early flight, why? The color tag system is so easy, and if you follow the directions, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO STAND IN A LONG LINE, Your luggage will be waiting for you in the easy bag claim area (if you put it outside your door as instructed, the night before disembarkation.)
