Review summary

Nice ship, food, drinks, staff, and activities. We have taken this cruise 4 times and have already booked again next year. This cruise had the oldest passengers and the most overweight passengers of any cruise we had been on. America's obesity problem was front and center. Perhaps being 9 days accounts for this. Even though I am "old" I prefer cruise where the age is a little younger.

Embarkation

We showed up about 2:00 pm and were on the ship in less than 15 minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Ate in main dining room once. Strip steak was decent and bread and sides very good. Ate at Lotus Garden three times. Sushi, fried pot stickers, calamari, lemon pepper shrimp, sweet and sour pork, and fried rice all pretty good. Wait staff fantastic. Love that portion sizes ARE NOT huge. Wife and I have been on 6 Norwegian ships and sushi is always reasonably priced and great quality. Rest of time had buffet and always find something we like. The Indian food is always good.

Ship Quality

We thought ship well laid out and in great condition.

Cabin / Stateroom

Liked room layout and fact that toilet stool can be closed from the rest of the bathroom. Shower was fantastic.

Ship tip

I became seriously ill with heart problems on our fifth day out. Utilized the ships medical staff and was blown away with the quality. There were two doctors and 4 nurses. Interacted with all and I cannot say enough good about the staff and their process. I always wondered about the availability of medical care and am mightily impressed. I was under treatment for 9 hours and released and had more follow up tests the next morning. The bill was $3900 which I think would be similar to emergency room treatment in USA.

Ports of call

New Orleans, Louisiana

Walked Bourbon, ate oysters, had coffee and pastries and people watched. Love New Orleans for so many reasons.

Cozumel, Mexico

there is always more than enough to do in this port.

George Town, Grand Cayman Did not visit port

Need to use tenders to visit. Happy to stay on ship and avoid rip off prices on shore.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras Did not visit port

Was sick but usually enjoy this port.

Santo Tomas De Castilla, Guatemala Did not visit port

Was sick and did not disembark.

Harvest Caye, Belize

Got off to look around. Grounds are very nice. Prices are high. We had liquor package, but this does not work on the private island. The beaches are nice, but water not very clean and kind of smelly. We went right back to the ship and won't even get off next time.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
This is our favorite port on this cruise. We leave the port area immediately and go right to the malecon (board walk?) and hang there all day. There are some fun beach front hangouts that you cannot find at other ports. A tip: If you order ceviche at most any port your are probably going to get tilapia, swai, or basa, even if they tell you differently.

Disembarkation

When self disembarkation started there were about 200 people ahead of us. In less than 20 minutes we were driving out of our parking lot.
