My mom wanted to do a cruise for her 80th birthday and I accompanied her; she's a regular cruiser. This was my second Norwegian Cruise and to be honest, I wasn't that keen after the first one.
However, I had a wonderful time and met some wonderful people who will be my friends for a long time.
The quality of food was great. The staff on board were knowledgeable and welcoming. The entertainment coordinators (especially Zandy. the solo cruiser's co-ordinator) suggested activities that were great for the younger and the young at heart members of the group. I'll definitely be back on Norwegian again, the cruise bug has bitten!
Embarkation
5 out of 5
My mom normally needs a wheelchair when she travels and the ship offered the service. It made the long distance easy for her to navigate.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
I ate in the restaurants (Savor, Taste and Local) for the most part and found the portions, quality and service excellent. I ate in the Manhattan once, but honestly preferred the smaller restaurants as the service was faster and more intimate. I did try the Garden Cafe (Buffet) a couple times and must say that the taste of India was phenomenally good!!! I didn't dine in any of the specialty dining restaurants and didn't regret or miss it, honestly. I also don't drink alcohol so opted not to get the unlimited drinks package.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
It was too cold for me to be out on deck for the most part so no pool, rock climbing etc.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
I partied like a rockstar and enjoyed dancing the night away almost every single night. The DJ was absolutely great and the theme parties were fun.
The comedians were great!!!
Elements was a great performance.
Lots of fun was there to be had in the Atrium with something for everyone...the different games were entertaining to watch.
I also had a blast doing Karaoke
Children's Programs
no kids
Service and Staff

The service was excellent. Staff were attentive and always helpful.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
I found the ship pristeen - how they managed to keep everywhere spotless and immaculate with all these people! The attention to detail must be applauded!
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
I accidentally booked the wrong cabin, meant to select a balcony room and ended up with the Ocean View. But honestly, I spent so little time in there that it didn't matter. I will go for a suite next time however, just to have a little more wiggle room and somewhere to sit.
Ship tip
Get familiar with the ship early and plan your day's activity from the night before. It's easy to miss the things you want to do because you can't find where it is.
I felt a little like we were being rushed off the boat. My mom required a wheelchair and they insisted we couldn't wait for one to come back and so she had the torture of struggling to walk the distance to disembark in the cold - there was no offer to help with the bags etc.
