The NCL Joy is a very nice ship. The crew was excellent, and the amenities were plentiful. We were fortunate to get really nice weather the vast majority of the days we were there. I would highly recommend this Cruise.
Norwegian Joy Cruise Review to Canada, New England, New York
September 2-10, 2024, NCL Joy - 8 Night Canada & New England (New York to Quebec City) cruise. Great Ship, Great Food, Excellent Weather, Awesome Staff, Fantastic time !!!
Embarkation
5 out of 5
As a Platinum member, it was streamlined and less than 20 minutes.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
If you get the chance, try the Specialty Restaurants as they are excellent.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Plenty to choose from. If you get bored, that,s on you.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Similar NCL ships of this size have a bit better entertainment than the Joy had on this particular Cruise.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
The Service and Staff were great. They answered all questions and assisted as needed. We just wish there was a Platinum desk as advertised instead of waiting in the longer lines when warranted.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
We en"Joy"ed the lay out of this Ship a bit better than others we've sailed on. This Ship was kept very clean without being overboard.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
We had a great Cabin Sewart, and the room was kept very nice and clean. Nicely positioned near Decks 8-7-6 for most of the festivities was a plus. We could take the stairs down instead of waiting for the elevators to arrive.
Ship tip
It's a large Ship so I'd do an online overview of it prior to sailing to get your bearings of what's what and where's where,
Arrived at 5am on an NCL purchased red-eye flight, which was fine, but the paid-for transport did not pick us up until nearly 10am. That was not pleasant.
Unfortunately, due to the multiple changes in arrival times, our Scenic Boston & Harbor Cruise tour was canceled. Since it was canceled so late, no other NCL tours were available. We instead walked about 45 minutes to Boston Commons which turned out to be a very nice alternative. We saved $225, got some exercise to work off the great meal from the night before (Texas BBQ), and got to see some very nice sights.
We utilized the NCL Kennebunkport & Scenic Cruise which turned out to be great. We had a very good tour bus guide which was very informative. Plenty of time for my wife to try a "Maine" Lobster Roll and walk through town. The Cruise part was excellent with an extremely knowledgeable boat Captain. We also got to witness his harvest several Lobster pots and see the nice catch he had. The weather turned out to be perfect, I'd do this one again.
We utilized the NCL Scenic Cabot Trail - Plus Meal tour. This was a nearly 7-hour tour which was extremely educational. We loved seeing the sights, stopping for pics along the way, and learning about the area. I must say that the lunch-stop, which was part of the tour fee, was fantastic. The layout had plenty of food for all to eat including fruits, veggies, make-your-own sandwich buffet, with plenty of meats, cheeses, condiments, etc. They also had fresh mussels, and per my wife, the best sea-food chowder she has ever had. To top it off a homemade apple-strudel dessert that was to die for. We would do this tour again !!!
We utilized the NCL Anne and Green Gables Ultimate tour for this one. Disclaimer. This is the only day we had rain on the Cruise, so it made this tour a bit not worth it. Having said, if you are an AGG fanatic, this tour is for you. If you are not, which we found we were not, don't waste your money on this one. It seems a it's become very commercialized to sell the Brand by both the extended family and the Gov. Just my honest opinion.
We utilized the NCL Easy Walk at Saguenay National Park tour. This one was interesting in the fact that the Tour Busses were actually School Busses. We weren't quite sure what to make of that, but it turned out very well. The bus was pretty comfortable, and we had no issues seeing out the windows. This was a 4 plus hour tour, with about 2 hours of it driving time. We had a great guide for our walking tour who was extremely knowledgeable about the surroundings and the history of the Fjord's. We hiked for nearly 1 1/12 hours and saw some fantastic sights. We were also very fortunate to get to see some the trees that were already changing into the fall colors. This is an easy/moderate hike, but well worth it.
Thank you for sharing your well detailed review. Glad your experience was a great one! Love the NCL/Joy & can’t wait to be back. Happy cruising
