Norwegian Joy

Cabin type: Suite

Cabin number: 14196

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

Having been on multiple cruise ships, NCL Joy is the most overcrowded and poorly designed ship. With so many people crammed into limited public areas, it is hard to avoid getting infected with Covid (unfortunately we got infected). Suggestion to NCL: 1) Limit the number of passengers 2) Elevators have occupancy sensors, program them NOT to stop at every floor if there are already 4-5 people inside. 3) Install temperature sensors at the gates to isolate people with fever.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Being a Haven guests it was quick

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Heaven, Le Bistro, Italian restaurants are good, but menu is the same every day, no specials. Buffet is a shame.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
All public areas were overcrowded most of the time.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
in comparison with other Cruise lines, entertainment was way below average.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Heaven butler, steward, restaurant personnel and specialty dining personnel were excellent.

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
Common areas are too small for over 4000 people. People have to rub shoulders to get through. People packed in elevators like sardines in a can.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Suite and bathroom are generous size, Comfortable mattress. AC worked fine.

Ship tip

Try to stay away from crowds and not get infected with Covid, on day 2-3 people are coughing everywhere.

Ports of call

New York, New York

4 out of 5

Royal Naval Dockyard, West End, Bermuda

3 out of 5
except for Snorkel Park beach (that turned out to be better and less crowded than famous Horseshoe beach), there is not much to do at Dockyard

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
took about 30 minutes

You cruised during the summer when the whole world and their children cruise, too. Thanks for your review.

If at all possible, try cruising while school is in session. Thank you for your review.

Normally, in the Haven, it is not that crowded. On the Bermuda sailing, you do have lots of sea days.

Why do people book in hot crowded summer then complain they get sick ?

You can get Covid anywhere, it’s up to you to take precautions. Planes are much more crowded.

When we choose to cruise there is always a chance of getting covid or other contagious illness. I’ve been on 4 cruises since restrictions were lifted and got covid on one of them. It won’t stop me from doing something I enjoy. Also it would be unrealistic to limit elevators to 4-5 people, the waiting area would be packed and the wait would be worse than it is now

Wow!! Sorry to hear & wishing you a prompt recovery. Unfortunately, it's the gamble we take once everything re-opened, and we wish to participate everyday life. Shopping, restaurants, the Mall, public transportation & of course, cruising. Your suggestions are all great, but not enforceable since the pandemic emergency status was lifted. All the best & happy cruising 😎⚓️🤩❣️‼️
