Review summary

Good cruise. Quebec and Halifax were great ports. Others not so much, but we knew that going in. We did this to cruise the St. Lawrence Seaway and we did. We missed one port due to weather. Not the first time this has happened to us. Flights/transfers: Generally no issues other than the chaos for airport transfers in NYC. Saved a lot of money. We didn’t do NCL hotel in Quebec. Air Canada going, Delta going home. Itinerary fine: we knew this ship was not going to be stopping at Old World treasure cities. Our goal was to sail the St. Lawrence Seaway and we did. Dining: We really liked the layout of the Garden Cafe vs other NCL ships. Great omelette bar. Food was adequate other times. The observation lounge was nice for afternoon coffee/tea. Food was okay. MDR: food was fine. Specialty dining (all part our package. If they had been ala carte, they would have been way overpriced): Got a cold steak at Cagneys but they fixed it. Second time, it was okay. Overall it was okay. La Cucina: Excellent. Teppanyaki: It was okay. Room and attendant service: our needs were met. General service: Ship was clean and orderly. Entertainment: Wife loved the Beatles cover band. Wanted to see Footloose but due to an injury to a performer it was cancelled after 1 performance. We understand. Wife and her friend went to one comedy show, they left quickly. Not a big deal as to each their own. All of us went to another comedy show, Al Park was very funny for adults. Elements was good. Appreciated the NFL games which were available. Internet: I knew going in it might be weak. It was. The sale on the 2nd day helped though as we paid nominal money for it. Had we paid full price we really would have disliked it. An aside: the cigar humidor lounge (if anyone cares), was bad. No service and it was rarely cleaned. However the smoking area at Spice H2O was great and made up for it in every way. Met great people there. Only one screw up: NCL had an outdated excursion itinerary on the website and the excursion operator said they didn’t go to one of they places NCL said we would. NCL gave us a partial credit though. Overall: we were satisfied with the cruise. Since we are itinerary travelers we wouldn’t do it again but we would take the Joy again for a different itinerary. We are pleased and felt it was a fair trade for the money. Overall B.
