Beautiful fall scenery in Eastern Canada. Would not recommend NCL.

Review summary

We will NOT cruise with NCL again. However, we loved 3 out of 4 of the ports. The fall colors and weather were awesome. The service employees on the ship were good to us. The food and entertainment were just OK.

Embarkation

2 out of 5
Very poor. They gave passengers 30 minute segments to show up in, but everybody ended up in one line for over an hour.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food that comes with the cruise is mediocre and the service is slow. They constantly advertise their specialty restaurants which cost a lot more to eat at! And, even the people that got eating at them as a perk, could not even make reservations at them. The restaurants did not have enough openings to meet the demand.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
We had the worst cruise director of all 7 of our cruises. Sea days were boring.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The entertainment they brought onto the ship was great. However, half of the entertainment was from their employees and it was average at best.

Children's Programs

Did not bring any children.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Our room steward was great. The hostesses and waiters/waitresses at dinner were friendly and hard working. I think their kitchen is slow.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship was clean. The layout was poor. The theatre had very long rows with only one way to get in and out and very large poles that obstructed the views of a lot of the seats. There was no inside public jacuzzi or sauna. You had to pay EXTRA for it like most everything on this ship!

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
It was the smallest cruise room we have ever stayed in.....very narrow. And to make things worse, they have a bed bolted to the wall, that folds down when they need it, that takes up another 10-12" of space away. We had to move our bed sideways because there was not enough room to get out of the bed on either side without hitting your head on the bolted bunk bed on one side and hitting your leg on the built in desk on the other side!

Ship tip

Bring things from home to do on sea days! My husband read 4 whole books! Be aware of the fact that the ship is going to constantly try to get you to spend more money!

Ports of call

Sydney, Nova Scotia

3 out of 5
I would have skipped this port and spent more time in Charlottetown, PEI and a 2nd day in Quebec instead.

Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island

5 out of 5
Beautiful place! Loved it there! We did the highlights of Charlottetown and Anne of Green Gables.

Quebec City, Quebec

5 out of 5
Loved it there! The problem was that they took one of the days there away so we had to go on 2 excursions back to back. We did the Countryside of Quebec which was gorgeous AND Quebec city after that. It was rushed and EXHAUSTING!

Halifax, Nova Scotia

4 out of 5
Liked it there. We did the highlights and went to Peggy's Cove which we would recommend.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
Pretty normal. Crowded and chaotic!

To avoid getting a room for four people with the fold down beds, you can always just pick a room for two. You can tell the difference on the deck plans by looking at the symbols legend. Yes the dining experience can take a while. Like any fine restaurant on land it is a time to relax and enjoy your company. For fast food, try the buffet. At dinner time it is often the same food.
