Review summary

Great cruise. We had a great time and enjoyed meeting a lot of European people. European people outnumbered Americans by about a 2-1 margin. Understandable since it originated in Europe. Ship was great and itinerary was highlighted by Iceland and Ok after that.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was very smooth and fast.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We had the unlimited beverage package as part of our cruise and the only complaint was that it was difficult to find an open bar sometimes. We only used the dining room one time. We used the Garden Cafe for most of our meals. It was great...a varied menu each day, very fast, very clean, very easy.. The configuration of the Garden Cafe on the Jade made it a great choice for our dining needs. We used the specialty dining twice because of our Latitudes perks. It was fine but I still have a personal objection to having to pay extra for the food on a cruise.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of the sea days. The pool area was not abundantly available because it was too cold. But we were able to find activities to stay as busy as we wanted. The fitness center was too hot the first couple of days, but they got that adjusted.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We enjoyed the nightly shows as well as the variety of the entertainment.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Generally the staff was very nice and friendly. Our room steward was great. The staff in the Garden Cafe were all very friendly and hard working.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Overall, the ship was great. Since the weather was cold a lot of the time, we were not able to use the pool area that much. This made it a little crowded in Spinnaker and some of the other public areas at times. All areas of the ship were always clean and well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We had a mini-suite on this cruise. We really enjoyed the extra room in the cabin especially the bathroom. The extra curtain between the sitting area and the bed made it easy to darken the room completely. It was very quiet.

Ports of call

Southampton (London), England Did not visit port

Just got on the ship.

Lerwick

3 out of 5
Walked around on our own. Interesting place. Nice museum. Visited some churches, forts and shops around the port.

Reykjavik, Iceland

5 out of 5
This port of call was the main reason we chose this itinerary . We took the circle tour excursion and would highly recommend it. We got to see many of the highlights of Iceland in just one day. Multiple days here would be nice as there is so much to see. Wonderful time and highlight of the trip.

Portland, Maine

3 out of 5
Took a bus tour of the city (not through the ship) and enjoyed the history of Portland as well as the visit to a lighthouse. Also walked around the city and did some shopping.

New York, New York Did not visit port

Off the ship and to the airport.

Disembarkation

2 out of 5
Disembarkation was not as smooth. Walk offs left first and seemed like there was a lot of them. By the time they got ready to release the first groups after the early walk-offs they released everyone else. We were at the beginning of the mass herd so it wasn't too bad for us....but it seemed like a cattle call after that. NCL needs to work on this.
