Review summary

While we needed this vacation- we will not be sailing with NCL ever again. We arrived late to every single port. It never felt like any of the ship’s staff knew what was going on- consistently told wrong information. We got tender tickets for GSC- only to have to wait in a line that wrapped multiple times around the ship because no one actually took the tickets by group. Overall, the misinformation, lateness to every single port, disorganization onboard- I want to vacation with more ease and (published) expectations met. Our family will be returning to the ‘ear’ ships for our future cruises.

Embarkation

The COVID testing did not begin ontime and caused a lot of overcrowding in the waiting areas. The whole area became extremely crowded. Once testing began, it was a quick process.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Food was excellent. Super disappointed that the NCL staff prior tot he cruise told me that children under 12 could eat free in specialty restaurants- she did not say that it would be only from a separate menu. With the Splash Academy closed, parents have to bring children to all meals. Children should be able to share their parents’ meal at no extra charge when they eat the ‘ordered’ meal (example- I should not have had to spend $50 for my daughter to order at Teppanyaki when she could have split my meal - neither of us could come close to finishing). Really disappointing.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The mini golf and climbing wall were no longer on the ship (even though the touchscreens still advertised them). Huge disappointment since the children’s club was closed - leaving very few activities for our kids to participate in. The escape room activity was excellent!

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Million Dollar Quartet was excellent- you need more shows of this caliber. JunNk was entertaining- but not worth the upcharge. Broadway Blitz was awful.

Children's Programs

1 out of 5
Splash Academy was closed. A real tragedy - not a lot of activities for kids on sea days.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Dennis and Ryan in Teppanyaki were excellent. Our steward, John, also showed care and concern when we had exhaust fumes pouring in to our room.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Women’s bathrooms were always dirty. I really missed that the lack of a grand space- the ship has more of a ‘mall’ feel.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Cabin was good. It is small for 4 people, but since we had the adjoining cabin- we could consistently shift people about to accomplish what needed to be done (changing clothes, etc).

Ports of call

New York, New York

Beautiful departure!

Norfolk, Virginia

Arrived very late. Not much to do close to port- especially with the limited time.

Port Canaveral, Florida

Loved having a full day- we were able to do all that we wanted.

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas

Excellent. Beautiful day at the beach. Should have stayed here 2 days instead of Nassau stop.

Nassau, Bahamas

Just not a great port.

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
Lack of information about what to expect. Timeline was not kept. Cleared customs an hour earlier than anticipated and was told to leave the building immediately. It was a cold NYC day. Lots of luggage and children- and no where to wait for our ride. Not a great ending to our vacation.
