Service and Staff

Staff and service is always great.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Ship was very clean. Ships design was not my favorite. Been on 29 cruises. 2nd worst ship layout.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Room was clean. Balcony was almost un useable. Just looked down at an awning. Could not see water next to ship. Most balconies above 9th floor had same view. Roof of awning covering bar or restaurant. Closets were hard to use.

Ship tip

Don't wast your money on a balcony.

You should have been told

You are able on some websites like cruise critic that you are able to see the decks and view you will have on that floor from your balcony if didn’t ask what there definition of a obstructed view was. We had the same view on our last getaway cruise. We didn’t mind you can still see the ocean just fine the awning doesn’t cover the glass at all. We saw on our msc seaside cruise that we were kind of tucked in and the balcony rooms that were kind of in our way had the hot tubs on them. We knew that well before we went on. Always do your homework. Example on the getaway your on the 9th floor with a balcony most likely it’s going to be considered obstructed because the waterfront is under on the 8th floor and portion of it is covered with a awning.

I NEVER let anyone else pick my cabin... Its not worth the little bit you save, to potentially be in a bad spot.

When booking online on NCL website, they tell you if it's an obstructed view. If you booked a sail away fare balcony, you can also end up with an obstructed balcony. It's well written. If you've booked via a third party website or travel agent, make sure you get the right info. I always book via NCL website and everything is well written. Happy that you still enjoyed your cruise on the beautifull Gateway!

Usually the category of the cabin will tell you if it’s obstructed. We always have our travel agent tell us about the cabin. Maybe you should have a travel agent next time or maybe ask the cruise line agent. Can’t really blame them completely if you didn’t ask.

Sorry to hear about your experience on the Getaway. It was actually my fav. ship. Things can change since it was 2016 when I went on it. We had a balcony room too. If I am correct it was something like 12898 or somewhere around there. I know it was towards the aft of the ship and I was able to see the water clearly. Now lower decks do get obstructed. I learned that my 1st time on the Escape. Trick is if you want to have a balcony and be that low on the breakaway class ships you need to book a forward balcony.
