Norwegian Getaway

9 Night Scandinavia Russia & Baltic (Copenhagen Roundtrip)

Sail date: June 07, 2019

Ship: Norwegian Getaway

Review summary

Extremely disappointed with the cleanliness and sanitation practices of this ship. Many passengers were coughing and sneezing and the public areas were not wiped down and sanitized to prevent the spread of germs; the buildup of fingerprints and grime could be seen and felt on the metal railings and elevator buttons. Cafe staff allowed patrons to fill personal water bottles and coffee containers despite the signage against this furthering the spread of germs which could have been easily prevented by implementing basic sanitation practices.

I was on the transatlantic cruise, 14 days on the Getaway, and the crew was constantly wiping, cleaning, and hand sanitisers everywhere, and you hear washy washy washy at the entrance of the buffett every time. Lol

If you are that concerned about sneezing, coughing and fingerprints I would suggest not sailing. The crew can only do so much, your best defense is wash your hands, wash your hands and remember to wash your hands.

If you’re nervous about getting sick then maybe you shouldn’t cruise. Look how many cruise ships are sailing every single day without sickness. And if people are getting sick it’s from passengers who brought it on the ship with them

I've sailed on the Gateway last April and the the ship was very clean 😉 I never felt that this was an issue and never got sick. Been on 9 NCL cruises and all ships were spotless.

We have never experienced anything like it on other ships and when I asked friends who have sailed on other NCL ships they have never had an issue with cleanliness/sanitation either. Our past experience has been that guests are served by the crew for at least the first 2-3 days to prevent the spread of illness, and crew members are seen consistently sanitizing public areas. I've notified NCL about our experience and hopefully others will have a different outcome.

One thing I am nervous about with cruising is that issue there. Contained space is a recipe for disaster.
