Review summary

We like the smaller ships better for easier accessibility to shows and eating. Hate that we have to pay for soda. I don’t understand who would drink so much soda, that a $66.00 charge per person is warranted. We had a family of 7, not buying for everyone. But I see still love NCL for their freestyle dining.

Awesome

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Buffet is bland, but where we eat most. Specialty restaurants really good, but hard to get into. House restaurants really good.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Kids enjoyed the slides and ripe course. I did the rock wall. Pools obviously overcrowded, but expected with a larger ship. Still found chairs on a higher deck.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
For who we could get to see awesome. Scheduling free shows are annoying, but understandably necessary. Couldn’t get to see all because of that.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All workers are awesome as usual!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The larger ships need a spinnaker type of lounge with seating and windows.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Room was clean and comfortable.

Ship tip

Figure out your week events and nights and schedule your activities immediately when on board.

Ports of call

New York, New York Did not visit port

Live there.

Port Canaveral, Florida

Disembarkation

I have sailed the Getaway twice. First off, all shows should have been booked before you even set sail, online. That is the easiest and best way. Some, like the comedy show, you need to book on day one at box office if you ever have any hope of getting in. Next, I have NEVER in all my years Cruising ever had free soda. Of course you have to pay for it. And lastly, out of all 4 lines I’ve sailed, the NCL Getaway has the BEST BUFFET AT SEA. Without a doubt. Far, far, far from bland. I’m currently sailing mostly Carnival because I’m nearly Platinum, but their buffet is paltry compared to NCL. We mostly just avoid their buffet in favor of all their other great places to grab some food.

You can book dining and shows several months ahead of time on the app or website.
