Overall we had a very good time. The biggest negative was disembarking the ship as stated above. The Getaway is a beautiful ship with plenty of onboard activities.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
It was decent but there was a departure delay that most passengers were not made aware of prior to sailing. We discovered copied letters at check in talking about a maintenance issue. Everyone should have known.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
We ate at Taste, Savor, and the Tropicana dining rooms. Food was good. We also ate at Teppanyaki, La Cucina, and Cagney's Steakhouse specialty restaurants. All were good but Cagney's was amazing! We also ate at O'Sheehan's, the Bake Shop, Dolce Gelato, and the Garden Cafe. No issues at any location with the food.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
We enjoyed playing mini-golf, the pools, and hot tubs. However, the latter are hard to get into during sunny and warm sea days.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
We saw Burn the Floor, the Bob Marley tribute and some comedy shows. Burn the Floor was truly amazing, outstanding, and wonderful! I have never seen such awesome dancing! The Bob Marley tribute was awesome as everyone was dancing and singing. Groove International did a wonderful job.
Children's Programs
Two adults sailed
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Initially, the crew seemed a bit disinterested. However, that changed as the cruise went on. We were amazed at the number of officers out and about interacting with passengers on a daily basis.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
The ship was very clean and well maintained. The main reason that this is not 5 stars is that there is only one corridor on decks 6, 7, & 8. Deck 7 was really annoying as you had to funnel through the casino every time.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
We had a mid-ship mini suite. The cabin was a nice size although the balcony was a tad small. The bathroom was huge with a double sink and large shower! Beds and everything was fine.
Ship tip
I would encourage you to try some of the specialty restaurants, especially Cagney's if you like steaks!
Disembarkation was a fiasco. There seemed to be at least 1,000 self assist passengers trying to disembark at the same time and the line snaked through O'Sheehan's. There should have been two exits points. Poorly done.
Glad you had a good time even though there were a couple of snags. One thing you can count on is that not everything will go according to plan and you typically won't be warned ahead of time. I would give the cruise line a break on having a maintenance issue before embarkation. It would be hard to notify thousands of people the morning of the cruise. As long as they let me on the ship I wouldn't care if I sat in Port longer than expected.
