You didn’t identify the cruise line. NCL has a feature on their app where you can message each other through the app for a $10 flat fee per device for the entire week. Make sure your phone is on airplane mode the entire time, or cellular at sea service will cause you to be billed huge amounts. Other cruise lines have different services.

The option for the messaging won't appear in their app until you are on board and connected to the ships internet.
