Always dress as light as u can for embarkation day. Cabins are never ready as soon as u board as the previous passengers have only JUST disembarked before you boarded. It takes time to make up a couple thousand beds and clean toilets and sinks and wash balcony doors and vacuum all the cabins. Would u want them to skip all that? Probably not. Your carry-on should be only what u need immediately for the first few hours on board. If you board in NY between Oct & May, u don't need a change of clothes or a swim suit unless u plan to hit the hot tubs first day. The more u cruise the better u will get at packing. And above all, be patient. Get on board, explore the ship, have some lunch at 1 of the many venues then work your way up top and grab a fruity drink and find a place on the rail for sail away. Your cabin will be ready by the time u pass under the bridge. Bon Voyage!!! ππ₯³π
