We really enjoyed our time on NCL Gem. We chose to celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with this special trip. Thanks for helping us do this. I am sure my ratings are in comparison to other cruises I have been on. I tried to be honest and fair. Hope some suggestions I have made will assist in your future service. Thanks again.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Easy, excellent
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Garden Cafe buffet was good with lots of variety. Magenta dining room was good. Service was poor in the Grand Pacific. Food often cold and some never came especially at breakfast. The Orchard Garden did not have good food.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Weather hampered most outside activities. Therefore physical activity was limited to the fitness centre. What was available to use was great if weather had been good.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Irish comedian O'Donoghue was EXCELLENT! Hearing a good, clean comedian was a real treat. Could have had him every day (: ALL musicians were wonderful and the cruise had good variety. LM Cancio has a great future. Keep him. The dancers and singers in stage shows were very good. Their first two shows day 1 and 2 were their best. The western theme was really weak. The last show, the sound for singers was poor but still good. Duo Wings was a unique act.
Children's Programs
We did not really know about this since we had no children. The children on board seemed happy enough, which makes me think it was satisfactory.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Our room steward was great! 5 stars. With the exception on one or two waiters that were very good, service was only 3 star.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
The ship's layout was ok. Have been on better. The Grand Pacific dining room was odd to get too. All were clean.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Cabin was fine. Clean and comfortable. TV was weak, glad you had MSNBC, but movie selection was very poor. We were not in cabin very much.
Ship tip
Friendly staff. Expect casual. Check out the ports you will visit so you will know if you are not interested in them.
Wonderful port. Important port. Need to have clarification to city where the port is. It is on documents but taxi drivers do to get this. Many walked from "Port of Quebec" with all their luggage to your embarkation spot. We visited this port early before embarkation day and chose to do our own tour instead of NCL offer. Also a place to store luggage for the day of disembarking, is important. This stop is in your itinerary, so your customers need this service (just like other ports where we get off the ship but return) even if not going on an excursion with NCL. This service would make you special and appreciated.
Nothing to do here except see the fiddle. I guess ok, but if there were a place in Sydney that performed the Celtic dances and music, it would be worth getting off the ship. People need to be aware of this. It was good to offer a tour to Badeck, a gorgeous spot, but give an option to go to museum of Alexander Graham Bell or not. The town itself is nice. We had been here before so did not go now. During the Celtic Festival it is absolutely wonderful, so if you could include some spot for Celtic music for guests on tour, it is worth it. Maybe someone was performing at the museum. This is a unique cultural part of Canada and I am not sure people understood that. (Maybe add a Celtic group to perform on the ship one evening, maybe before leaving port.)
Could spend 2 days here. Wonderful city. Wonderful port. Good tours. We had been to Halifax and area before so did not take an excursion now. So much to see and learn and much of it is near the port.
Wonderful port. Need to offer a place for your guest/customers who disembark to store their luggage (say until 4:00). We finally found a place after much searching. We did not stay in Boston for the night and did not go to the airport. If you consider this port part of your itinerary, it would be best to provide this service even if your guests choose not to go on a NCL excursion. It was only provided to those who took the bus tour and ended up at the airport. Probably offering luggage storage in Quebec too would be valuable to you (or at least give information where this could be done near the port).
