Review summary

I have previously sailed on the Norwegian Dawn and absolutely loved it but the Gem did not compare at all. The Gem staff was not nearly as friendly as the Dawn staff. The Gem food was not as good, it was all the same except for maybe one station each night. The hours of operation of most of the dining places were not as often as the Dawn was. Many staff and fellow cruisers were rude. Staff pushed into me multiple times without even acknowledging. They just didn't seem as happy as the staff on the Dawn. There were many amenities listed on the NCL website for the Gem including the rock wall and sports courts but the courts were closed by 5 and almost never had basketballs out because they are located above a restaurant. The rock wall was never opened. They did do an awesome job welcoming us back to the ship from the port excursions but some of them were quite disorganized. Overall, I don't think I would sail on the Gem again.

My family was on the Gem in 2010. We were not thrilled with aspects of it. My daughter fell in the hibachi restaurant. Received no help from staff. Received call from the manager AFTER returning from the doctor! Did not get crutches even though daughter was told to stay off her foot! Would have to wait to get in regular dining room even though it was half empty. My daughter found out at end of cruise they would give you a beeper, and nearby bar had like 2 for 1 drinks while you waited. Some staff very good. The steward even made different towel figures in our cabins besides the animals.

I was on the Gem and had a great experience. This was a few years ago so things may have changed.

I am going on Gem in August and am hearing that children under 3 cannot go in any of the pools.. is this correct?

I have been on the Gem several times and never had rude or unfriendly staff, However I sailed on her two years ago. I’ll be on the Gem in 18 days hoping things haven’t gone downhill in past 2 years.

Just got off the gem march 17 2018 and found moist if the staff rude also there were few we liked and stayed with them for our service , singh in the whiskey bar is awesome along with Ruben and goose next to the whiskey bar near the casino. We are trying out the BLISS in jan 2020 can't wait..🍷🍺
