Review summary

The cruise to Eastern Canada was my first. I usually don't cruise during the Fall, but this year I decided to take a different route. It was a good choice.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
My embarkation experience was fine.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The ship's main dining rooms offered a nice selection of foods. I didn't eat at any of the "specialty" restaurants . The food in the Garden Cafe was just "average" .

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
I did not partake in any of the physical activities on the ship. I did see all of the shows, movies and presentations by the staff/crew.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The entertainment was excellent.

Children's Programs

I did not cruise with children.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
All of the service by the room stewards, waiters and ship personnel that I received was satisfactory.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship's layout was a bit cramped and the design was average. The common areas were clean and maintained well.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
I was very pleased with the way that my cabin was maintained. Jonathan did an excellent job!

Ship tip

The Gem is a smaller ship than the Breakaway. It doesnt have as much space, but it is a clean ship with nice amenities.

Ports of call

New York, New York Did not visit port

I love in New York.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

5 out of 5
Halifax is a really nice port and the excursion to "Peggy's Cove" was a wonderful experience!

Quebec City, Quebec

5 out of 5
It rained a lot in Quebec the day that we arrived, but it was a nice place with lots to do.

Corner Brook, Newfoundland

4 out of 5
Corner Brook, Newfoundland offers a variety of things to do, and I found a nice shopping Mall with good prices.

Sydney, Nova Scotia Did not visit port

A storm developed in the Atlantic, so we were unable to visit Sydney.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
I have always carried my own bags off of the ship. It's much easier and faster than waiting for the crews to get my bags.
