Review summary

Great experience. Had a few minor hiccups, but the rest outweighed everything. We stayed in the Deluxe Owner's suite, mainly due to discounts, and it's worth it if you can justify it. Otherwise, Penthouse with large balcony seems to be the best value in the Haven if you are traveling with 3 guests or less. Sadly we couldn't dock at Great Stirrup Cay due to high winds and seas, but this itinerary was great, and just the right length. Normally I'm ready to go home after 3-4 days of travel, but didn't get that sensation on this trip.

A couple of hiccups trying to get through security - agent kept asking for a "boarding pass", which really just meant your Check-in email from NCL.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food was great, except for Bayamo. Nothing special considering how the restaurant manager treated us when I showed up wearing shorts - the long pants requirement wasn't communicated at all pre-cruise or by the Haven concierge, so was a bit of a bummer. Fresh fish was okay, but not anything special. Branzino was a single fillet, not served on the bone/whole fish like I am accustomed to every other place I've had it. My brother ordered the Fish & Chips, which were fish sticks and fries when they arrived. NOT worth $30. Otherwise, Cagney's, Moderno and the Haven restaurant were all great and well worth the cost/experience (Cagney's and Moderno were the two places we used our Free at Sea 2 dining comps)

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Haven pool/hot tubs were great. The zip-line/ropes course was pretty basic and underwhelming based on my brother's experience elsewhere.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Casino was great, my brother went to several of the shows and demonstrations, which he enjoyed.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Service was great for the most part. Had issue with hostess and restaurant manager at Bayamo over dress code requirements that weren't communicated pre-cruise. Also had an issue with billing at guest services when they did not follow directions for charging a jewelry purchase on an alternate credit card. Took 2 trips and around 40 minutes to rectify because people can't follow directions for basic math.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Very clean and lots of hand sanitizer available everywhere

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Suite was amazing, views were great.

Ship tip

Avoid Bayamo ;-) Price didn't warrant quality of food. Use your Free at Sea dining at Cagney's or Moderno. Eat free otherwise!

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

Ocean World was a bit of a let down exhibit/show wise, but all of the staff were friendly and got some great souvenirs that were not overly marked up in price.

Disembarkation

quick and efficient. Waiting for an Uber took forever due to the traffic layout at the port, but that's not Norwegian's fault.
