This was a great welcome back to cruising. But I do not count this as a normal cruise. It was at or less then 50% capacity and obviously a little different bc of covid.
The service was amazing - hands down the best we have ever had. Never had to wait for anything...not even elevators!
Lots of hand washing and hand sanitizer.
Wasn't the greatest weather but we made the best of it.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
The covid testing prior to embarkation was so smooth and organized. We were one of the first ones with negative test and first ones through security to check in. Check in was super smooth. Everything is now electronic so no more paper health questionnaires. And the escape used facial recognition for getting off and on the ship.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
The Escape offered such a great amount of food in the restaurants. Cagney's again knocked it out of the park. We have never had a bad experience with Cagney's. One of our favorites.
The only thing I marked one star off for was the garden cafe. It didn't have the widest selection of foods and it appeared to be similar each day. This may be because of the lower capacity but I found it bland and boring.
Onboard Activities
1 out of 5
We didn't use any of the activities.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Hands down five stars. Because of the lower capacity it was almost overwhelming how much the staff greeted and interacted with you. They def have more staff then passengers right now. Everyone was so kind and helpful. You could tell that they were happy to be back on board (as were we).
Our room steward Patricka Johnson was AMAZING. She was so kind and attentive to our needs. She had our laundry done in one day. Always checked in on us and the room was spotless. Five stars.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The Escape was INCREDIBLY clean. And you always saw staff cleaning constantly.
I felt safer on the ship then in my local grocery store.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
This is a mini suite balcony (called club balcony now). I gave it three stars for a couple of reasons.
1. It is right above Howl At the Moon venue and at night you hear the thumping music.
2. Also it is on the lowest deck of balconies so Everytime someone moves a chair around on their balconies it echoes below.
3. This mini suite doesn't have a normal walk in shower, it is a step up/in bath tub shower with two closing glass doors. It is right for a bigger person so be aware if you are over 5 feet and 10 inches tall you will be bent over a little to fit. It was less then convenient.
Ship tip
Book whatever you want to do on the app beforehand. If available.
This was a neat port to sail in and out of. Smaller then port Miami. A little farther drive from Orlando airport but was a nice change.
We didn't do any excursions at this location.
We didn't do any excursion. Just got off the ship and did a little shopping. A lot of shops closed due to the pandemic. It was just okay nothing significant.
We literally walked right off the ship. No line. Again they used facial recognition to check you off the boat. Walked to the room and found our luggage and walked right through customs. Didn't even need to stop. Easy peasy.
Appreciate your detailed review. I think many of us have been a wee bit spoiled with this reduced passenger load. Happy we have had the opportunity. Glad you enjoyed your cruise.
