Review summary

I was a passenger on the Sept 23 sailing of the NCL Escape. I enjoyed the food whether it was at the buffet, or one of the free dining rooms. Cagney’s steak house was fantastic. I found the Manhattan room a little loud and the selections from the menu different. This was our least liked meal on the ship. I don’t spend much time around the pool areas. I did find the grotto area in the H2O spice quite surprising and cool. I also tried the tube ride and as long as the line was short (6-20) the wait worked for me. I do like activities. There was plenty to go around during the day but you needed to be interested. I like to participate in the trivia. There was general, music, big bang, and harry potter. I was a participant in two wins and received beer cozies. There were other games like scattegories and win, lose or draw or Sudoku . I did not participate in all but it kept me busy. The library area had games, cards, daily trivia, daily sudoku, and chess if looking for other activities. Shopping was on my list of things to do. The first two ports of call at Honduras and Belize were surprisingly low on shopping establishments. Belize had a beautiful pool and beach area. Costa Maya and Cozumel had better deals and had more shops. As for entertainment, don’t miss the brat pack for the record. The comedians were very funny. The Dueling piano’s were fantastic as well, they play your request and more. Although I did not get any of my choices played, you could hear songs by Louis Armstrong, Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, or even Outkast. They have a lounge for Karaoke. You would think that over 9600 selections would be enough. There was no Bon Jovi or Paul Simon. In a lounge that is called 5 o’clock somewhere there is only two Jimmy Buffet selections. Only two from Katy Perry as well. So you may need to dig deep to find songs to sing. There is a truckload of Beatles, I also found an obscure Dr Hook song “On the cover of the rolling Stone. I also found some nice R.E.M, Losing My Religion. The ship is very large. You can meet someone interesting and not see them the rest of the cruise. The atrium area is where many of the nightly cruise activities take place. Lip Sync, Newly wed game, room singing competition, dance competition and other events took place there. Bottom line is this area is too small and if you don’t stake a seat early you will 5 or 6 deep in the crowd and decide to do something else. The Casino was another matter. I don’t mind playing a little on the one armed bandits or some blackjack. For the most part it is a smoking casino with a small area for non smokers but I kept clear. I know others that braved the area and got sick from the smoking there. John
