Review summary

We enjoyed our last minute cruise on the Epic. Ship was full, buffet crowded but we had a nice time.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We had 10am arrival time. We were in group 4 (1-3 priority only) and were at 10.45 am onboard.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Breakfast buffet was just ok. We only eat a bit of fruit so that was available. We also bought fresh juice as we did not like the juice from the machine. Evening buffet was sometimes good but most evenings just terrible. Buffet was also very crowded. Difficult to find a table inside. We also went to the MDR, O Sheenans, Noodle bar, Jasmine garden and Le Bistrot. We liked this food so much more.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We enjoyed the H2O pool (main pool full with children). Pool was also heated. We went to the gym, spa thermal area, slides, bowling, ice bar and had a lot of fun.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Not much to do if you do not like shows. Music was not very good.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Most of the staff were very friendly.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Our third time on the Epic. We enjoyed the ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Inside cabin (last minute cruise - nothing else available). Quiet so ok for us.

Ship tip

If you disembark in Trieste; get off the ship as soon as possible.

Ports of call

Barcelona, Spain

4 out of 5
We have visited this port many times before so just walked around. A lot of construction work is going on.

NAPLES (POMPEII), ITALY

3 out of 5
Visited this port before. This time we booked the 'NCL pompeii on your own'. Terrible bus guide (wrong entrance, no map/info, long wait before getting info about return time/place). We waisted a lot of time just waiting. The other busses were better organised.

TRIESTE (VENICE), ITALY

1 out of 5
Terrible port for disembarkation, 2 hours from Venice airport.

Catania, Sicily

5 out of 5
Best stop for us. Enjoyed the market/food/...

Corfu, Greece

5 out of 5
Enjoyed this port, walked to old town and had a nice lunch.

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
We booked a 2 hour transfer at 8.30am with NCL. At 8 am they decided to close/reopen/close the disembarkation proces (too dangerous with heavy rain/wind). We decided to go to the gangway early but it was total chaos; there was a 3 hour waiting line through the ship, on stairs, children and elderly people sitting on the floor. We finally got off at 11.45am but missed our 2pm flight.

@ardbr; this port is just not good enough for such a large cruiseship. A storm as this one is just normal in Europe in October/November. They called every colortag to disembark at 9am even when the 8am transfer was still not able to disembark.

I really love when everyone tells you the whole story. I boarded the ship on the 27th, the day you got off. You forgot to say how bad that storm was. As people were disembarking a bad wind storm passed by. The gangways blew of the ship and they had to forgive out how to have 4100 people disembark. That was totally out of NCL control. Another reason I always booked a day early and a day later. We waited in the port for almost 4 hrs
