Review summary

We booked this cruise because with love NCL, this ship, and it was a great deal. The itinerary had changed because of the devastation suffered by several islands from this year’s hurricanes. We had no issue with that because we love this ship. Truly, the ship is the destination.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation went rather smoothly. Considering the amount of people they had to process in a short time, I think the overall handling went well. I have been to many other ports, and this one is up there with some of the most busy.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
I love this ship. This is my favorite. This was our 16th crusie. We were on the is in 2010, and it continues to impress me. The food, entertainment, and service was all top notch.

Le Bistro

5 out of 5

We had a wonderful dinner at Le Bistro. My wife and I both ordered the Dover Sole. The fish was prepared with a light lemon butter sauce that was just the right amount. The fish was meaty and tender. Everything from the service to the meal was executed perfectly.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
I used the fitness center. Overall, the facility was decent. However, they did not have sufficient kettle bells, battle ropes, and try bands. There seemed to be a lot of unused space for classroom activities that were not used during the day.

Spa

4 out of 5

The SPA was well outfitted with a Sauna, Steam room, lounge chairs, mosaic tile heated lounge beds, a balcony, and a large theropy pool. My only complaint was that they could use more space. Towels and robs were also provided. Each locker room had steam rooms as well.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We saw Priscilla and Burn the floor. Both shows were broadway caliber productions. The only complaint is that they did not have a live orchestra. The theatre is smaller than some ships, which provides that true Broadway fell.

Service and Staff

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
I found no issue with the cleanliness of the ship. At times, some of the bathrooms needed attending. I did inform one of the crew members and he radioed someone immediately.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin was a little tight, but certainly did not hamper us in any way. There is sufficient storage space and the beds were very comfortable. I did not like the way the bathroom was laid out. The toilet, sink, and shower was all seperate pods. It is hard to describe how this is set up, but it is unlike any other ship or hotel. I think NCL did away with this concept on the newer ships. The balcony was large enough for both of us to sit, relax, and read a book.

Ship tip

Be prepared to walk. The ship does not have a mid-ship elevator, so you are always on the wrong end of the ship. NCL did away with that as well on their newer ships.

Ports of call

Falmouth, Jamaica

3 out of 5
We did not do an excursion. The problem with docking in Falmouth is that you are so far away from all the excursion destinations. We went out to visit the port with hopes of jumping on a wifi. We found one place, made a purchases, but still did not give us the password. There is really not much to do in the port and I did not feel like riding on a bus for an hour.

George Town, Grand Cayman

3 out of 5
We have also been here several times. This was our first time not taking an excursion. We were not impressed with our last visit to 7 mile beach, so we elected to just visit the port. There is nothing in this port, so either take an excursion or stay on the ship.

Great Stirrup Cay (Cruise Line Private Island), Bahamas

4 out of 5
GSC is a beautiful island. Be prepared for the colder water of the Atlantic. Also, getting the food was long. The buffet was set up in a linear fashion vs. food stations. This is why it took so long to get food. We also rented a clam shell witch was nice.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
This went smoothly. I like that they had everything open on the ship as opposed to other companies that force everyone into the same place to wait for their number or color to be called.
