Review summary
The Norwegian Epic is a very beautiful ship with 4,000 passengers and 1700 crew members. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The food, however, was a different story. The descriptions in the menu were not appealing so that we couldn't even find anything that sounded appealing. When we did order, the food was usually just warm if not cold. Many times we just ate only a small portion and sent the rest back. We have taken over 20 cruises and this is the first one where we were not offered a shrimp cocktail at least once. Also, lobster was never on the menu. If you wanted either one of these items you had to go to the specialty restaurants aboard and pay for the meal. This ship cost a fortune to build and they now charge for many, many things that usually were included in the cost of the cruise. In the spa and gym area, if you wanted to have a locker or be able to use the sauna or steam room you had to pay an additional fee of $199.00 per person. That is totally unrealistic and unacceptable. The casino occupies the entire sixth deck and the machines are very customer friendly and loose. However, they had a "key" or "Key-hole" machine that is programmed so that if you swipe your card nothing happens but you still get charged. Whatever commission is responsible for the gaming aboard these ships needs to investigates as this is illegal. When the final bill came through, I was charged for a total of 40 swipes of my card; however, the machine only responded to about 10 swipes. I guess they have to make up for the extremely high cost of building this ship any way that they can.
