Embarkation

3 out of 5
Have sailed on NCL from San Pedro, Ca, Seattle, Wa, Seward, AK, and Maimi, FL and all of those were better than NYC.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Buffet - had breakfast there all but last morning. Nothing that should be hot was hot. Cold scrambled eggs, cold pancakes, cold French toast. Orange juice was good. Hard to get well done bacon. Very little choice at omelette bar. Main dining rooms had same menu daily except last night had some added items. Service was extremely slow. We went to the lobster capital of the world and never offered any lobster dishes (checked specialty restaurant menus and this was true there also). Have been on the Jewel, Pearl, Jewel again, Getaway and have never encountered this before.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Too much regarding booking another cruise. Too many times conflict of enjoyable activities and having to choose.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Music usually too loud for the smaller lounges. Not the quality of performers found on other ships except the VIP's. The passengers who performed at the Karaoke competition were better than the majority of on board entertainers. It was in the Bliss lounge and had to get there early to get a seat. It should have been held in a larger venue.

Children's Programs

no children with us

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
Our room steward was great but the rest of the crew had no answers for us for any question we would ask. They didn't know about getting off the ship or anything about any of the ports. The day we were in bar harbor we had an early morning tour. We had to go to a The Cellar for face to face passport check at the back of the ship, we than had to go to the Stardust Theatre at the front of the ship to meet with others on the same tour we than had to go to the back of the ship(this means we walked a half mile before we ever got off the ship) to disembark. If it had been organized like all the other NCL ships we had been on you wouldn't be going from one end of the ship to the other end of the ship and back again before you even got off and were exhausted. The crew did not seem to have the command of English that all the other crews have had and they also seemed to have very little knowledge of the ship or the ports. Many other passengers had these same complaints and several times told passengers that this was their first cruise on NCL to not judge NCL by this cruise.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
On other ships important announcements are heard in your cabin on the Dawn they were not so never knew we need to get different tags for disembarkation and when went to guest services (gentleman from Columbia) said we'll have to just find our bags with no encouragement.

We just got off the Dawn in April! We had a wonderful cruise! The daily news letter that is left in your room each night has all the information you need! The night before the last day the news letter has 3 extra pages in color telling you about luggage tags! Every cruise I have been on only plays announcements in common areas not the state rooms! Only emergency announcements are played in your cabin!
