Review summary

I was, admittedly, scared to death to get on a cruise ship but decided to face my fear and go on my very first EVER real vacation. WOW, I am so glad I did. What an amazing, amazing time. The Dawn has been recently updated and fully renovated and it came out beautifully. The entire staff were wonderfully polite and friendly and very hard working. The Captain was highly charming during his announcements. There was plenty of onboard activities to satisfy just about anything you might want to do. The best part was the comradery I came upon up on the 12th deck where the pool is located. They had live bands playing all day and most of the evening and the bands were really entertaining. Made loads of new friends onboard. I just cannot say enough good things about my entire experience. I honestly cannot pick a favorite time because it was all just fantastic. The rooms are a lot larger than they appear when you're checking them out online. There was plenty of storage space and closet areas for clothing for two of us. The food everywhere was amazing, I ate better and healthier onboard than I do at home.

Just cannot say enough good things about the entire experience. My ONLY complaints are:

1. dang, the elderly women riding their carts around were so danged mean and nasty for some reason. One tried to run me over, three were really complaining about having to walk behind us during boarding. I guess they were missing Bingo? But this has nothing to do with the staff or ship itself.

2. I really think they need to just STOP allowing anyone under the age of 21-years-old to drink whatsoever. The rules were 18-21 years old could drink WINE or BEER with parental consent. That was not happening, they were drinking quite a lot of hard liquor and of course, a good many of them got out of hand. 4 girls were 'arrested' on board for just being out of control and causing a ruckus, as well as trying to steal signs from around the ship. NCL might really want to crack down on underage drinking aboard for everyone's safety and enjoyment.

I cannot wait to go on another cruise!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Amazing and at the buffets there literally is something for everyone.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Literally something for everyone.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The bands and singers were awesome. I really didn't go to the shows, I was having so much fun poolside listening to live music. But there really was a lot of different things to do; something for everyone.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
I saw children's activities posted daily in our onboard newsletter. I did not partake as I do not have children. The children I saw around the ship appeared to be having a really good time.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Gemma in the Garden Café has to be one of the hardest workers I've met. Also, Jack Tacotaco, our room steward (?) was pretty amazing himself. I wish I remembered the names of the other few employees I got to know. But for the most part, they were all polite, extremely helpful and accommodating.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Gorgeous and spotless.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Very good size for a regular cabin. The beds weren't the most comfortable in the world but they certainly weren't the most uncomfortable. Every day your room gets cleaned and bedding is changed. Every night you come back and they have turned down your beds and left a towel animal for us. Jack even turned on some ambient music for us for when we returned to the cabin. Just fabulous. I had heard cabins were very, very small. But I really don't think they're much smaller than a normal hotel room. The bathroom was nicely laid out and the shower was large enough to completely turn around without banging elbows or anything like that.

Ship tip

BRING your own refillable plastic tumbler, I didn't and bought one at the onboard shop and it was the best purchase I made. Especially in the morning when I need more coffee than normal people. Ha!

Ports of call

Boston, Massachusetts

Boston is my birthplace. I recommend taking a taxi to the dock and not trying to drive and park.

Royal Naval Dockyard, West End, Bermuda

Traveler Photos

A rooster, his mate and their young ones at the dock! BEWARE of the "Miami Vice" - they're so good but sneak up on you. Obvious. WATER! Horseshoe Beach Cabin decorated for us when we came aboard. Cake we got with the Bon Voyage package. Crabby

As a parent of a responsible teen I think they did the right thing - arrest those out of control. Don't think they need to apply a ban to everyone to cover a few bad apples. Plenty of drunk obnoxious grown ups on some cruises too. Glad you enjoyed your cruise, it is addicting for sure! 🚢
