Norewegian Dawn NE/Canada Cruise

Sail Date: September 16, 2016

Reviewed: 2 months ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Suite

Our mini suite was very nice, entertainment was excellent and we enjoyed Quebec City and Bar Harbor.  The rest of the ports were rather "ho-hum" and Sydney Nova Scotia was downright depressing!

Cabin / Stateroom
Fabulous cabin close to forward elevators, Spacious with a decent sized balcony and of course a full sized tub n the bathroom which made the cruise great! Our cabin attendant, Alfredo was top notch; clean towels 2x/day, ice bucket always filled, always polite and smilling!
Embarkation and Disembarkation
Getting onto the ship in Quebec was a nightmare! We arrived at the pier at 11:20am for a 12noon embark. We waited for almost 30 minutes in this room and then were herded into a small, cramped terminal. After going thru the check-in process we were made to stand outside in a long line for another 30 minutes. Fortunately, the sun was shining. What happens if/when it rains?
We have gone on 10+ cruises and have never felt so frustrated trying to get onboard!
Ship Quality
Very nice after recent re-furb. Unfortunately, Cagney's Champagne Bar is located directly outside the (enclosed) Cigar Bar. The smell of cigar smoke was very strong despite the enclosure.
Destinations and Excursions
Onboard Activities
Entertainment
Fabulous singers, dancers, Second City Improv,
Jose and patty are WONderful!
Service and Staff
Food and Dining
We 4 meals in the specialty restaurants. Cagney's Steakhouse was excellent. Le Bistro was very good. The art work in the Venetian Dining Room is absurd! Everyone was complaining about the silly pictures: large oil paintings around the DR that were defaced with paint..? joke? Aqua DR was very pretty.
Quebec City, Quebec
Be sure to visit Le Petit Champlain, the charming village at the foot of Chateau Frontenac. You feel like you are in Paris!
Sydney, Nova Scotia
Very sad port. Almost nothing interesting to see and the little town is very run down. It used to be a coal mining town and what remains is not very pretty.
Halifax, Nova Scotia
Saint John, New Brunswick
Bar Harbor, Maine

Tip

The ship size was just about perfect. not too big, not too small. Capacity 2,400 guests plus crew. I would definitely recommend a min-suite and the 11th floor is great. There is a family suite above, not a dining facility or pool deck, so it is quiet. We bough passes to the Thermal Therapy Spa
