Review summary

We were very happy with the smaller, intimate environment of the Crown versus what we would expect the huge ships to be like. Although this is our first cruise, we both were VERY happy that we selected the Freestyle method of cruising. We got up when ready, ate when and where we wanted, and enjoyed the informal options afforded (who wants to put a tie on for dinner on vacation?). We loved the shows, and the population was small enough that we felt we knew the dance/song troupe by the end of the week, as they were out and available during the day as well. Service was great, always a Salty Dog or a coffee refill, or a smiling face to clear off the dishes and let you enjoy your experience served by NCL staff who seemed glad to have you aboard (breath of fresh air from the service you receive day to day. Cruising right from Philly avoids the costly airfare of getting to port, and picks up two days that would be wasted flying to a distant port to sail. Step out of your car, pick up a drink, and start relaxing! The beginning and ending river cruise adds a nice touch to the excitement of sailing the ocean and docking at the 3 Bermuda destinations, which are also different and exciting experiences. We have made a pact to begin saving for our next cruise--likely the same line (NCL), the same ship (NW Crown), and the same 7 day Freestyle Cruise with 3 port stops in Bermuda. With luck, we will have Steven again to make up our cabin, and create the cute animal characters from towels that awaited us on our bed each night when we gave up and turned in!! The best vacation we have ever had, after almost 40 year of marriage!!
