Big Ship! by queenhass

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Traveled with 13 family members.  Was told we couldn't eat all at one table that they only seat 12....The band singing in the buffet restaurant area made a comment to me as I walked by that was inappropriate and disgusting.  Lots of food but was limited as a healthly vegetarian.  The rooms were comfortable and the showers had great water pressure.  Crew helpful and friendly.  Would perfer assigned eating times as the wait was always long for dining in the free restaurants.  Decks were stuffed with people and hard to get a lounge chair at the pool.  Very clean ship.  Would perfer a non smoking ship as walking in the main areas were smokey from areas people could smoke.

bigger ship doesn't necessarily mean bigger pleasure by mashaay

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

The ship is big, too big with too many people. Not a big variety of open decks with comfortable seating accommodations and those that are there usually occupied. Staff is polite, but detached and concerned with making money, too many people on on service staff are eager to tell stories of financial struggles and personal life (children, sick old parents, etc.) I specifically didn't have a good experience at the spa - exhaduratingly, to the point of discomfort polite, yet way too familiar, enormous tip added on to the charge and overcharge for the service - a bit of a bate and switch on that. Otherwise, room comfortable, bathroom comfortable, food decent, good presentation. Shows a well produced and well cast. Three days in Bermuda were great. With respect to getting on and off the ship much easier than my last trip to Bahamas - galloping with three stops one day each on Norwegian jewel, although I prefer the Jewel to the breakaway. All in all - fine trip.

Fun fun fun by Santa

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

The only negative the whole trip was the cruise line provided shuttle from airport to port the driver was reckless ignorant rude an a poor example of a driver. That said the cruise was fine enjoyed the show Rock of Ages. The second city troop was great as always, art shows were fun and the food was great. Crew was excellent . Bermuda was wonderful the weather was cooperative and the sites were interesting.

Just a normal cruise by cruiser007

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

The only downside to this cruise was the cabin credit we were told we would receive when we booked through Cruises Only. They said we would get an immediate credit onboard, but it never happened.

We wanna go back...now! by lrp9718

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

What a ship!  It was a fantastic trip...everyone, and we mean, EVERYONE, of the staff was wonderful, friendly and willing to go "the extra mile."  The food was great, although we would have liked to see other fish, such as halibut, sole, etc. in some of the restaurants...we enjoyed the swordfish and salmon though (and the nova lox was exceptional!).  Everyone seemed to enjoy the trip, and the staff helped make it so.

Would we recommend this cruise to others?  Absolutely...we already have...

Only one problem with this trip...we had to come home at the end of it!!!  We wanna go back!  Thank you to Norweginan and !

Best Vacation Ever by jajadoremus

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Both my wife and myself  had the best time ever on a vacation. We had a beautiful stateroom, which was cleaned by the clean up crew very nicely. The room was always clean and neat. The crew were just as friendly as they could be, they could't do enough for you.The food was fantastic and there was so much to choose from that no matter what you wanted you had no problem finding it to eat.Julie and the entertment cast was great. There was always something going on to keep you active. if you wanted too.You could always just relax and take it easy too. Either way you will have a great time on this cruise. The captain made you feel at home, he is very good at his job.Drinks are always right there for you , the bar staff is always going around asking if you need anything, and you don't have to wait long for a refill.Just try this cruise and you too will love your time on board.

Exceeded My Expectations by jtat81

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

From the moment we got on the ship I got the feeling everyone wanted to make our cruise special, Starting with the welcome, the room steward, the attention at the restaurants, the activities, and the cruise director Julie was phenomenal. I could go on on with the accolades. The food in the restaurants were good but specially in the specialty restaurants (we really enjoyed the French restaurant and Ocean Blue). We were concerned witht he size of the ship and amount of people on board but you never felt there were almost 4000 people on board. We highly recomment this cruise.

Great Time despite Crowds and Smoke by scw0

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

My wife and I are celebrating our 40th anniversary.  We had no special plans.  However, two weeks before the cruise, my wife asked me if I wanted to do a cruise out of NYC (about 90 minutes away) and that started our adventure!  Usually, we plan and plan.  This was as spontaneous as we get and it worked out perfectly.  We had such a great time!  Life overwhelms and it is important to get away.  So very positive all the way around.

Food and service were generally good!  All of the crew was helpful.  The conversations with the senior staff, entertainment, hotel services, etc. were informative and enjoyable.  Entertainment was limited, but with the piano bar you get a new show every time, and Second City offer 3 different shows!  Our cruise director, Julie was great and our cabin steward, Martin, was wonderful and took quite good care of us!

So here are a few down moments:

1.  They allow smoking on the ship.  The decks are often smoke filled despite being outside.  The "Waterfront" is impossible to walk on during the evening hours unless you want to be covered in smoke.  The pool area was similar.  So as a non-smoker, I was blocked from enjoying these areas...very disappointing.

Smoke also permeated through Deck 7 (the casino deck) because it was not blocked off.  Smoke then made its way through open areas to decks 6 and 8 as well.

2.  We learned an important lesson.  Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) wants you to prepay tips, beverages, book shows, and restaurants in advance.  This fits well with our planning style.  So we did.  NCL also gave us $100 on board credit and gave us $30 meal money.  Here's the disappointing part, we could not use our on board credit to pay for any of these things because we pre-booked them and they were charged to my credit card.  So we wound up "wasting" the $130 on things that we did not want.  Lesson learned for future trips.  I'm not sure where the confusion came from.  I called both NCL and and both said I should just book my activities and it would be adjusted at the end.  Guest services said "no" and they could not help!

3.  The pool area is quite crowded.  Many other people race to save chairs first thing in the morning and never use them throughout the day.  There are not enough deck chairs and there is no room between them!

4.  Also paying for some entertainment just seemed like "nickel and diming" us for no apparent reason.

All in all, it was a great trip!  We were (are) very happy!  Now that we know how on board credit works, that issue will be resolved.  But I hope NCL truly considers limiting smoking to an enclosed portion of the casino as well as only a limited area of the "Waterfront"!

Enjoy!

25th wedding anniversary cruise by koivan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

We cruise at least once a year. The NCL breakaway is one of the best ship we have traveled so far besides Disney cruise. The balcony room is better design than the NCL Epic. (sink next to the bed on Epic) Food is good, however the none specialty restaurants can combine into one restaurant since the manuals are the same. service is very good. We like the ship docked for three days so that we dont have to rush back to catch the ship.  We will go again on the breakaway hopefully very soon.

Family Ship for sure! by FLchallam

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

If you like a dip in the pool, this ship is not for you.  The pool is far too small for a 4000+ passenger ship.  The children's pool area and the slide and other onboard water attractions are definitely geared toward FAMILY.  If you are not traveling with young family members, I would try another ship in Norwegian's line.

The ship was beautiful.  Room was spacious and bathroom huge with great shower and double sinks.  Every meal was fantastic. So much better than other food on two Royal Carribean cruises.

Never again by jetbird22

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Breakaway / Destination: Bermuda

Norwegian showed its true colors on why they are light years away from being like a celebrity/royal carribean competitor from service to food .guest services did not accommodate us after they said they would get us on at least same floor . Couldn't be bothered to even try , food was mediocre at best . Shows we're terrible
