Review summary

We had read many reviews of Breakaway (after we booked it) and I have to admit we were so nervous that we were going to be disappointed. We were not! The ship was very crowded, but overall, you work around it. Just can't say enough about the crew - they made the cruise so enjoyable. We ate great, had lots of laughs and daughters (22 and 14) said they would go on a cruise again. Great family vacation!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Main dining rooms were very good. Wait staff were awesome. We had no issues getting seated quickly in main dining (ate in Manhattan, Taste and Savor) (although we dined on the later side), however, main dining rooms can fill quickly around "normal dining hours" and it was tough getting reservations at specialty dining restaurants if not done further in advance. We were able to eat at Cagney's Steakhouse (excellent), La Cucina (favorite), Wasabi (great sushi). Breakfast buffet was good, always plenty of options. Great pastries! Although ship was very crowded, it was relatively quick and easy to get a drink from a bar and drink staff was very good and also relatively quick to serve. Our experience with food and beverages was very good.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
So many things to do! Fun “game shows”, Bingo, Deal No Deal, live music, trivia, sing alongs, pool deck dancing, the list goes on and on.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Great stage shows! Burn the Floor was awesome! Went twice and loved it even more the second time! Comedians were very good. Went to 2 family shows and were very good. Howl at the Moon is wonderful.

Children's Programs

We did not travel with small children

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Staff and Crew was absolutely amazing! They couldn’t do enough for passengers. They had a smile on their faces every day, high fives, fist pumps, jokes, etc. can’t say enough about all the crew and staff. They are what made our cruise so enjoyable and memorable!

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Cleanliness was excellent. Ship design was good, although pool area was small for the number of passengers. Places got very crowded at times but it was overall a nice ship. Not as fancy as others we have been on, but still very nice.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Loved our cabin! Super comfortable beds! Decent amount of space. Balcony is a little small, but we were fine with that.

Ship tip

Be prepared to get to pools early to get a lounge chair, make any dinner reservations early as spots fill quickly.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida Did not visit port

Did not tour around Miami

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

We did an excursion to the park and beach. Tour guide was great, however, the excursion overall did not live up to the description. Details say interact with the wildlife and it was one a picture with a few macaws and then picture with one monkey. Beach was nice. It included lunch which was nothing great and there were the typical locals selling trinkets and doing braids. Overall, nothing great about the excursion.

Harvest Caye, Belize

5 out of 5
Harvest Caye was our favorite port! Easy walk to a beautiful area with a great beach, huge pool area with swim up bar, cute shops to buy souvenirs. Girls went ziplining and loved it. They said the folks who ran it were so nice!

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

4 out of 5
Costa Maya was nice. Excursion was touring the Mayan Ruins and then time at Blue Lagoon with lunch. Enjoyed seeing the ruins, was a lot of walking and our guide was amazing. The Lagoon was nice, small area, but nice. Hammocks and swings in the water, kayaking (included), open bar and lunch. Lunch was decent and you could get as much as you wanted. nice area with lounge chairs under canvas canopies. Overall enjoyed Costa Maya.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
Loved Cozumel. Easy walk from the ship to the port are with tons of shops and a few restaurants. Area to swim and snorkel (water is beautiful). Fun spot w/out having to book an excursion.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We had an easy time with disembarkation. We chose a somewhat later time (9:00 am) so had plenty of time for breakfast and coffee. We could relax and not feel the rush of having to get off the ship. By the time it was our turn to get off ship, it moved along relatively quickly and smoothly. Found our luggage right away, got outside and got in Uber and were on the highway to the airport within 45 mins start to finish.
