Overall great experience.
2nd time on Breakaway and first time on a Christmas Cruise.
Full occupancy and had quite a few large parties and families
Never felt overcrowded except for Xmas Dinner
Loved the ship!
SIX the Musical was exceptional and a nice suprise.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Embarkation experience was relatively easy. New Orleans Cruise Port is a bit different than most and small for a large ship such as the NCL Breakaway, so plan accordingly. Give yourself enough time to potentially deal with weather, traffic, potential outdoor lines, and overall congestion. The experience however was easy with enough workers, porters, and helpful people directing you. It was a very rainy day for departure and walking to the port from a neighbor hotel caused more taxis and cars than usual
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Would be 5 stars but on this NCL cruise we experienced slower service and actually cold food on more than one occasion. Maybe it was because the ship was a full capacity but that should not be an excuse. Selections, quality, and taste is always good in NCL imo.
Onboard Activities

Entertainment
5 out of 5
Breakaway Entertainment was top notch on this cruise. Best comedian I think I've seen on a cruiseship. Also Burn the Floor is great! The production of SIX had phenomenal talent and was an unexpected 5 star show. I hear its leaving. That is too bad for NCL. Standing ovations all around for all these productions each night.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Room steward was always attentive. Great job with our room. Casino hosts as well. Overall great service, although a couple of slower experiences in the dining rooms.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Always have been a fan of the Breakaway and this NCL class of ship.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Met our overall needs for 2 Cruisers. Was all the way to front of ship and Balcony is one floor below the bridge deck overlook but really had no obstructed view. Bigger than most rooms with enough storage space. Balcony smaller but functional.
Ship tip
Vibe is smaller on the ship. There is a bar an mirror image of deck space on the same level. Why spend the money as you really don't need it as they have enough deck space for most and a Spice H20 to avoid the under 18 crowd.
They have to fix the excursion bus exit. Lost 30 minutes of excursion time trying to exit because of foot and taxi traffic. Not efficient when 2 large ships are in port
We tried the Fantasy Island shore excursion off the boat. NOT worth the 249.00 price from NCL. Try to get it somewhere like Viator or try an alternative excursion. We wanted to do something different. Food was good. Snorkel offering was chaotic. And the tour guides didn't even share when bus was going back.
Always good, but why is this not an inclusive experience like their other private island GS Key? It could be so much more, but can't beat the great beach and water.
Love this port if you venture off to avoid it. I did see how they expanded it but weather permitted its use. Go to Mahahual by 4pp taxi (get taxi outside of main gate) take in the beach clubs, Krazy Lobster, and get GREAT 1 hour messages on the beach for only $25!!
Easy. The elevator experience with everyone walking off was causing alot of people to have to wait. Just be patient people you WILL get off the boat. Seemed like everyone was being directed to forward elevators and aft elevators were locked. This was to set up the queue necessary to form the line that started on level 7 forward and went through the casino and all the way back and exiting via the main dining room. Then outside you had to go all the way back to the front if the ship to exit into the port. Very easy off with face recognition kiosks off the boat for immigration. No passports needed. Plenty of taxis and transportation available early.
