Norwegian Breakaway

7 Night Canada & New England (New York Roundtrip)

Sail date: September 11, 2022

Ship: Norwegian Breakaway

Traveled as: Singles/Friends

Review summary

I sailed in September. The only thing I’d change would be to go either a month earlier to see puffins before they migrate or a month later to catch more intense fall colors.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
As this was my first cruise, I don’t have other embarkations to compare it with. I do know it went more smoothly than my last airport experience and there weren’t any snags or surprises.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Most of the food was great! I stuck mainly to the buffet and liked the variety. Bartender remembered my favorite order fairly quickly as well

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We weren’t able to enjoy the outdoor activities much due to weather, but the thermal spa was heaven!

Entertainment

4 out of 5

The Atrium

5 out of 5

Piano music, comfy chairs, and roaming servers. Can be tricky to find a seat but, once you have, it’s a great spot to chill.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
My room steward was incredible! He remembered my personal preferences and even arrived in less than 5 minutes when I locked myself out.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Everything very clean and well maintained. The only layout issue I found was bottle necking crowds in the atrium at key times, when multiple lines for multiple services and events were in the same location.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
An interior cabin. More spacious and quiet than I expected. Best sleep I’ve had in ages!

Ship tip

This ship is what you make it. There were venues for all types of cruisers.

Ports of call

Halifax, Nova Scotia

5 out of 5
Peggy’s Cove was worth the entire price of the trip for me! If you love rocky coasts, lighthouses, and seaside villages, this is Heaven!

Bar Harbor, Maine

5 out of 5
Acadia or harbor cruise if you love nature, town if you like shopping. I’ll be returning again to see more!

Newport, Rhode Island

4 out of 5
To be fair, we were here on a very rainy day, so maybe in future I’d I return I’ll see more beauty in it. The Cliff Walk was lovely, but other than that, I was ready to return to the ship.

New York, New York

5 out of 5
As a former New Yorker, it was awesome to be back and see it again! No matter what your interest, there’s something here for you!

Saint John, New Brunswick

5 out of 5
In autumn, try the excursion to the maple syrup farm for perfect photos

Boston, Massachusetts

5 out of 5
Took the North Shore excursion to see multiple small fishing towns. It was awesome if that’s your thing!

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
I was SO confused! I was assigned two different tag colors because of priority status and airport transfer. The intercom saying wait in your cabins while crew were saying go line up. The chaos of luggage hunting while not knowing if airport transfer bus would wait or return. Granted, this was my first cruise, so there was a learning curve involved, but still a stressful way to end it.

Wow your first cruise and your review is better than 95% of veteran cruisers! Those details really help people planning for this cruise. For some reason most people think strangers care if they just liked something or didn't like it. We read strangers reviews to get information to help determine if we might like it or not. For example if my wife just said her steak was "perfect" you may assume you would like it but it would really mean it was over cooked and cold because that's how she likes it.
