Review summary

Great way to get away with good food, lots to do and a nice itinerary.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Embarkation was pretty smooth. Everyone is given a board Group Card and asked to sit in most any area in a new, large terminal. Boarding was late due to COVID Protocols taking a little longer for the previous cruise debarkation. Our embarkation was delayed, but once started moved fairly quickly.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
You could always find something wrong with the food at the various restaurants, but the overall quality was very good, and the service spectacular! At mostly in the Garden Cafe (Buffet) - always a good variety of freshly prepared items. Ocean Blue a favorite if you like seafood, Teppanyaki if you like fresh hibachi food and stale (but funny) jokes and antics. Manhattan (Main Dining) was well appointed, included a band and a dance floor - take advantage of that when you can. Taste had the same food but in a smaller venue. If you are able to sit at Marko's table you will be quite impressed with his service and attention to detail. He even sent back my soup that had cooled while waiting for me to finish my salad.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Plenty of things to do. Big pool; mostly crowded during band hours, Water slides were fast and fun, Ropes Course was challenging and enjoyable - check for proper attire. Spice H2O has a cool grotto that is like an adult splash pool. Didn't miss the rock climbing wall, but would have enjoyed the mini golf course (no longer on the ship). Two Ping Pong tables that were usually available when we wanted to play. The jogging track is well marked at 8 laps to the mile. Plenty of trend mills and other equipment in the gym to keep the pounds off, too.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The Broadway Show Six was outstanding! We left Tortola and landed in Broadway later that night. One act musical about the six wives of Henry VIII. These 10 women were incredibly talented (yes 10 - 6 singers/performers and 4 in the band). We went back the next night just to try and absorb all the stanzas in the score. Dueling Pianos was a great venue if you want to sing along while being entertained.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All the staff were extremely courteous, friendly and engaging. Very positive attitude and happy to see us. Gemma in Manhattan was a great assist Maitre and made sure we were supplied with great wines and hot entrees. Bar service, though sometime slow was very good and attentive.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship is showing a little age in places, but relatively clean and, there could always be seen a crew member cleaning/scrubbing. Deck 8 is the main thoroughfare with Deck 6 being where other restaurants, bars, and Starbucks are. The casino is sandwiched between the two on Deck 7; smoking there does tend to spread to the other decks at times. Really loved the Waterfront concept outboard both sides of Deck 8!

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Cabin could have been cleaner, but the club large balcony Suites are roomy with a good amount of storage space.

Ship tip

Have fun, say hi to the staff and other passengers, and take advantage of all the amenities!

Ports of call

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

Went to Virgin Gorda and toured the Baths. Basically, a hike through water between large rocks!

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

Miami, Florida

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Took the Everglades Tour. With that, we were through the queue quickly and the integration of Customs with disembarkation made getting off the ship, picking up luggage, and exiting the terminal a breeze!

Great review, thanks! We’re on the Breakaway for the first time next year with some family who have never cruised before, we’re hoping it gets them hooked on cruising too!
