Review summary

The NCL Breakaway is a great ship. A nearly identical twin the the Getaway. Freestyle cruising is not exactly what they make it out to be. It's more that it's an alternative to traditional cruising. It def does not mean you can show up 2 min before a show and get a seat. It just means that you can do the planning before your cruise and choose what you want to do and when. One of the best parts of freestyle cruising is the dining attire. It's a pain in the butt for men to bring a suit on a cruise. Thank god NCL doesn't require this. You can go to dinner dressed comfortably in shorts and t shirts. The ship is gorgeous. It's relatively well thought out. It's a bit weird that there are two atriums (atrium and 678 ocean place) but the design was good. Although I didn't spend much time on the deck, it looked like chair hogs were present, but you could still find something. Spice H2O was also really cool. Garden Café (Buffet) Your standard cruise ship buffet. It's pretty crowded and loud, but definitely not terrible. Never took more than 2-3 minutes to find a table. Taste/Savor Definitely a better option than the buffet for breakfast/lunch. Their breakfast/lunch menu don't change but they're varied enough. Their smoked salmon bagel is a great breakfast option and the lamb at lunch was good. Manhattan MDR is Easily the biggest dining room I have ever eaten in. Don't make a reservation for 6 and expect to see a show at 7:30. It takes about 2 hours to eat dinner. They have shows in Manhatten . The early show is at 6, so make reservations for 5:45 so you don't miss it. (If you're an early bird) O'Sheehans Pub food here. Their Thai Chili wings are excellent. Great place to go for lunch on a port day. They also make great drinks. Bars The bars on the ship were excellent. The balcony, while not being huge was more than fine for two people to sit outside comfortably. 3-4 people would be comfortable standing outside. The bathroom was great. This was easily the biggest bathroom I have ever seen at sea. The shower was bigger as well. All in all, I had an amazing cruise. While there were upcharges to be seen around the boat (Bake shop, specialty dining, photos, margarittaville, etc) none of these things are necessary for you to have a great cruise. If you have the ultimate beverage package then you're all set

When you look at the deck plan it looks like you get a bit of “extra” balcony. This is not the case. The railing stops you from using it.

Ship tip

Book everything 90 days in advance so you don’t miss out!

Ports of call

Royal Naval Dockyard, West End, Bermuda

The port area is nice. It’s a historical point of interest in its own right. The gift shop right next to the ship gives you their WiFi with purchase. 6$ for I tenter super close to the ship. Deal to me! The rest of the island is great with Horseshoe Bay being the highlight!

Yes, it's the opposite of Freestyle. I have never sailed without at least 2 suits and generally at least one tuxedo. Not really an issue and so nice to dress up for my wife. Only exception being Alaskan cruises.

Glad you enjoyed.

One week to go for us. Thanks for review. The free style concept is off. More like "book before and plan everything or you will miss out" concept.
